I know this is off the GCA subject, but I am in the process of doing a design for our new building and would appreciate any pictures you may have.

Thanks,
Steve

Stephen,

I've sent you some by E-mail.  I'm afraid some of them are rather big files - stupidly, I didn't check before sending.  Have patience!

Stephen,

I think this is a great thread.....tell us about the course and what your club is trying to get done with the project...goals and budget would be fun....Is that pimple on top of the current building called a cupola...does it fit into any aiming scemes on the course.....You just can't poo poo a place that sucks so much money out of a course and can result in at least 25% of your time spent...this is a GCA subject and should be explored.

Mr Kanglone, I must say it's a bit presumptious to sneak up alongside the lake in front of my home, snap a quick picture and assume you have the right to post it online like this.

How about this modest example from Stoke Poges, built by the son of William Penn.

Everything to the left-side was a recent expansion.  The big viewing window (men's smoking room) and clock are necessary features.  I'm not a huge fan of the revolving door entrance they now have.

I saw the old photos of Newport & Winged Foot. Nice.

If you want to look at some old plans and old photographs of classic clubhouses,   see if you can find a copy of the Clifford Wendehack's classic book  'Golf and Country Clubs' (1929 w/ limited printing / about 1000 copies).  It might be available at large city or univ libraries.

The book has about 50 pages of discussion of clubhouse needs circa 1929 and about 100 pages of plans and photos.  Features clubhouses at Everglades, Fishers Island, Winged Foot, Ridgewood, Lakeside, Morris County, Gulf Stream, Detroit Golf Club, Franklin Hills, Pepper Pike, Grosse Point CC, Quaker Ridge, etc.

It is large format, coffee table book, black & white photos of course.

If this site was Golf Clubhouse Architecture Atlas, GCAA, Wendehack's book would be the 'daddy' book.

Wendehack designed many clubhouses in northeast including  Ridgewood, Winged Foot,  etc.

I think we might need a little info on the course and the budget if we are really going to help....There are some nice low budget club houses out there.

Red Stick clubhouse was a mistake, IMO.
They had a chance to do something very
understated, and they produced that.  :P

Steve,
You've got a big job on your hands
to come up with a building that
sits well on the bluff, looks
out towards the hills and over the
course. Good luck

Steve, I don't get it.  Is this a joke?  Your course just built the new clubhouse.  What are you supposed to come up with?

Do you mean you are supposed to design a new maintenance facility to be complimentary to the clubhouse design?

No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.
