...because last Thursday, it was there that I scored my first hole in one!  Life is good.  Been playing this damn game for 35 years and I finally got one.  I owe you all a cocktail.  Tommy, yours will be a choice single-malt scotch.

Well, for Tommy's sake, could I suggest Cadenheads Caperdonich 24 year old Speyside. It's very very good.

Yes, Joel, they are 3-6 since their 8-0 start last year.  Expectations became too high after that start, which is too bad, because the coaches get all of the blame.  I think they need to join a conference full time to improve.... ;D

By the way, Ted, congrats!  And I'll settle for a brew of a different kind....Black Butte Porter, not available in the east.

I'm passing around the hat to send Shivas and Huckaby to the Warren course so that maybe they, too, can have a hole-in-one, for once.

Nice going Ted.  I too am on that sad list of aceless wonders.  But, since I only started playing regularly about 18 years ago, and it took you 35 years by comparison, I guess I might prepare myself to accomplish the feat sometime before my 70th birthday...  By that time I hope I don't have to hit driver to a 165 yard hole... ::) :-\

Congrats, Ted.

What a perfect name for Huckaby and Shivas's band that will sing all those silly songs on the Joan Baez thread ...

That cousin ought to be already dead by now.

And yes, I like Aceless Wonders for our band.  Just one condition - I get to play the giant stand-up bass.

 ;D ;D

Go everyone but the Giants!

I get to play the giant stand-up base.

1. Is that the giant stand-up first bass, second bass, or third bass?

2. Anyone who would root for the Braves before the Twins has problems considerably more serious than a lack of holes-in-one (or, perhaps better put: the lack of even a single hole-in-one).

I have no idea what you're talking about re bass.   ;)

And if it comes down to Braves/Twins, that's great by me because that means the Giants will have lost.  That is all that matters from this point forward.

Oh, that and Bonds suffering a career-ending injury, so he is forever stuck two short of Mays...

But I dare not dream that much.

I hate the Giants.  I REALLY hate Bonds.

4th hole at the Warren Course.  Yardage was 143 to the middle.  Hole was all the way back left.  Hit 8 iron.

Good man, TJS.  Hell of a shot.

Interesting though, while you surely made an ace, you didn't really make an eagle, did you?

Isn't par not given for individual holes on that course?

Us Aceless Wonders need to be as smartass as possible at all times.   ;D

Dan Kelly...I resemble that remark...go Braves!  Although...I was born in Rochester, MN so I am a Twins fan by birthright, but am also very loyal to my "first" teams, and for that matter it is the Bravos all the way!

Ted...CONGRATS! on your monumental feat.  I too fall into the Shivas/Huckaby/Daley category...been playing since I was ten (about 24 years now) and have yet to card a one...but I'm NOT giving up hope!

No fair! You can't go back and correct your spelling -- after I've made an (allegedly) funny comment about it!

But now that you've deleted your thinko, I suggest that you call your band The Baseless Aceless.

The only proper World Series possible, this year, is Cubs/Twins -- with Cubs/Red Sox a distant second.

Dan - sorry man, every time you correct me from now on, a revision shall be the result.  Save these for Goodale.  I don't have the time to spellcheck every post I make, and yes I am completely humorless about this.

And re your Twins, well... you've won one at least fairly recently.  If I have my druthers this comes down Cubs/Red Sox, and the 7th game goes 55 innings and is called a tie.

TJSturges,

I know a fellow who was playing in the group behind you.
He said you used a driver ?   ;D
Remember, it's not how, it's how many.

I was scheduled to play the golf course on Oct 17, prior to the USC game, but had to cancel.  I'm rescheduling for next year and will pay special attention to # 4.

Scott Burroughs,

Notre Dame plays a National schedule, against teams in Florida, Tennessee, Texas, California, etc., etc..
If they joined a conference, they'd have to curtail their National schedule, and few want to see that happen.

They're just fine where they are, as an Independent.

[1] I don't have the time to spellcheck every post I make, and [2] yes I am completely humorless about this.

[1] Spellcheck (sp?) wouldn't have helped!

[2] Reminds me of an Edward Koren cartoon in The New Yorker, years ago:

The scene:

Auto mechanic, in a garage, has raised the hood of a woman's car and has found there, huddling in the engine compartment, one of those wonderful, hairy, wild Koren creatures -- neither human nor animal, more amusing than monstrous.

The caption:

The auto mechanic says to the lady: "Well, THERE'S your problem!"

As for the future: I'll save my little notes (which are always meant to amuse, and never to criticize -- because, after all: There, but for the grace of an exceedingly demanding father and a few exceedingly demanding English teachers, go I) for those who don't have time to go back and amend their posts.  ;D ::) :P :-*

Pat I agree with you on the stature of ND. I am pleased you did not bring up the lack of talent for their poor play. That has not been a problem for the Irish since before Ara, notwithstanding media commentary to the contrary..

Ted, I'm curious.  If you had your druthers, would you take the ace at ND or a career low score - well played round at Yeamans?  That is a no brainer for me...

RJ,

Funny you should ask that.  The guy I was playing with has a career low round of 68.  My best ever is 72 (1 over) on the course I grew up on.  My buddy and I both fluctuate between 6-9 handicaps, so his 68 was a big thrill.  Knowing this, and the fact that he was playing with me when I made the one, I thought about which one I'd rather have this weekend.

For me, I'd rather have the ace.  I've always told my wife, that when I die (if I died "aceless"), my first question to God was gonna be "Why no ace for me?  ...Uncle Bill has one, Dad has 2...what gives?"

Would love to have the 68 at Yeamans (which would be especially sweet because it would shave one off of Ran's career round...also played at Yeamans), but I wouldn't trade my ace for it.
