Bandon Dunes Trip Feb 8-11, Looking For One Golfer
« on: January 29, 2008, 08:36:02 PM »
Invitation to Bandon Dunes:

We need you to join our group at Bandon Dunes on February 8 to 11, 2008. We have seven golfers and need one more to make it 8.

We are scheduled to play Bandon Crossings on Friday, Bandon Trails on Saturday, Bandon Dunes on Sunday and Pacific Dunes on Monday. The shared room at the resort is $225 for three nights and it is $270 for three rounds of golf.

Weather will be fun. Golf will be great. This is a great chance to play
the best links courses anywhere.

Please send either me or Jeff Doerr a message if you can join us.

This is a great bunch of guys. Index range is about 4 to 14 and ages from late 30s to early 60s.

Let us know asap.

It would be great for me to share with another PNW GCAer!

It would be fun if you put it on ebay with a picture of your roommate.  For people who may want to fly in from the midwest are there any rides from major airports?  What is the playing format and are there any gambling opportunities or requirements.  How fat is the fattest guy?

John,

Here are a few of the guys heading out! One coming down from Seattle/Tacoma area, three more of us driving down from Portland and the others flying into North Bend. Rides from PDX can be easily arranged.

Your Truly in the blue and Bobby in the black:

This is some of the crew flying in. This was their trip last Feb. The only guy not coming in this group is the shorter guy (I think he's about 5' 9" - this is a TALL group):

With round trip airfairs from St. Louis to Portland at $220 this trip could work very well for almost anyone.  I did this exact thing a few years back with a group of strangers and it worked out perfect.  Anyone who has not seen Bandon should take the risk and sign up now before the spot is taken.  It is a bit far out on my calendar for me to commit at this time.  Please keep me posted when the spot fills and good luck.

Why couldn't you have done this trip before Lent?  I'd go, but my congregation, as much as they know about and even encourage my addiction, would take a dim view of it. :)  Have fun

We will be playing foursome matches. Each round we will rotate partners. There is a $20 buy in with the person winning the most matches taking the prize. I think everyone is under 235 pounds.

If you fly into Portland or North Bend, we can give you a ride. Four players are leaving from Portland and three are flying into North Bend.

Two guys are taking caddies and the rest of us are pushy/pully. I might take a caddie for our round at Pacific Dunes.

I'm still confused by a couple of details.  What are the tee times for Friday and Monday.  If a guy would fly into Portland are there any casinos where he could spend Thursday and Monday nights or do the Portland guys plan on driving down on Thursday already?

We are planning on playing Friday at 12:30 pm at Bandon Crossings but our 8th does not have to make it to that round.

We have tee times at 8:30 am on Saturday, 9:40 am on Sunday and 8:30 am on Monday.

I'm still out but only feel it is fair to say to those who have not checked that the weather looks to be breaking perfect for this trip.  I have a great feeling about the trend that just broke this morning.  http://tinyurl.com/3bxtww  Somebody needs to jump on this before it gets too easy.

Jeff & Scott et al.

I eagerly await hearing your report from Bandon Crossings.

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

Joe,

Isn't Crossings built on sand?  Shouldn't it drain well?

Should we be skeptical of Joe's reports on Crossings? He works for the competition after all. ;)

Hey guys, I can't make it this year (my old boss's 92nd birthday party is on the 8th), but I am jealous.  Keep me in mind for any future trips - its a cross country flight for me, so I'd need a little heads up, but I'd love to play, and those prices are great.

I'll save you the time.  The recent deluge of rain has rendered the crossings almost unplayable.  I would make sure they where letting you take carts before I went down there because you won't want to walk it....

Thanks for the heads up. We will check the conditions before showing up there.

We are still looking for the final golfer for this trip.

LOL

I'd say there were suckers from all over who caught that bait last year.

For one and all:  a group of stalwart GCAers made a trip to Bandon last year right around this time.  Let's just say the weather was "fun", as Scott puts it.  That is, "fun" if one likes overcoming adversity.

I keep hearing about winter trips where it's sunny and warm up there, though.  I guess we just had bad luck.

Yea, its real funny coming on here and trying to submarine these guys trip.  I just called Bandon Crossing and they assured me the course is and will be in fine shape.  Check out my weather forecast for next week in the reply above.  You guys who add nothing but doom and gloom really need to delete your posts and let these guys and whoever wants to join them have their fun.

Two trips, one in March, the other in May.  Seven total days, two rounds in relatively good weather- some sun, breezy, but little rain, 11-12 rounds in Huckaby "fun" weather.  I too heard the stories about the great days, though they were typically from people who had heard it from somebody who heard it from somebody else.  Those GoreTex bucket hats and wet-gloves are man's greatest creations, and though a bit pricey, they're essential to "enjoy" the "fun" golf.

JK induced modification:  I loved Bandon.  Would do it again if provided the opportunity.  And it does appear that the participants of this group know the conditions quite well.  BTW, my Titleist G-Tex suit which did very well at Bandon totally failed not too far from Chambers Bay.  The wettest golf conditions I have ever played were at Pumpkin Ridge and Portland GC, a week apart.  Not too many places on the courses without casual water.  That was never a problem at Bandon.

Joe,

Its understood you live nearby and have been there.  But certainly you can understand how your comments would be just as suspect, if not more, with your conflict of interest as well.

Can we get a non-offiliated 3rd party to chime in?    8)

Great source, the pro shop at Crossings.  I live in Bandon, John.  Ive been on the crossings THIS year.  I'm not trying to submarine anyones trip.  Febuary can be great (although your weather forcast is worthless) and for the bargin rate at the resort it makes sense for those more cost concious then others.

This is our fifth annual February trip to Bandon. We can't afford to go in the summer.

We usually play at Sandpines but we hope to try out Bandon Crossings this year. It may be soggy but that should still be better than playing at Sandpines.

-Still looking for a single to join us.

You are right.

Another round at the resort would be better but it is question of availability, cost and variety. You appreciate the resort after playing somewhere else.
