Important golfing terms to know
« on: October 30, 2007, 01:43:50 PM »
Golf has given us some unusual and colorful terms to describe shots --

shank, chili-dip, skull, duck-hook, worm-burner, etc. Here are some new

ones to add to your vocabulary. Enjoy!

A *James Joyce* - an impossible read

A *Rock Hudson * - looked straight, but wasn't.

A *Cuban* - needed one more revolution

An *Elton John *- a big bender that lips the rim

A *Thurman Munson* - a dead Yank

A *German* - a hookenfocker

An *Adolf Hitler* - two shots in the bunker

A *Saddam Hussein* - from one bunker straight into another

A *Yasser Arafat* - ugly and in the sand

A *Kate Winslett* - little bit fat but otherwise perfect

A *John Kennedy, Jr.* - didn't make it over the water

An *Elephant's Ass* - it's high and it stinks

A *Rodney King* - over-clubbed

An *O.J. Simpson* - got away with it

A *Princess Grace* - should have taken a driver

A *Princess Di* - shouldn't have taken a driver

A *George W.* - steadily fading

A *condom* - safe, but didn't feel very good

A *circus tent* - a BIG top

An *Anna Kournikova* - looks great, but unlikely to get a result

A *Brazilian* - Shaved the hole

A * Paris Hilton* - an expensive hole

A *Rush Limbaugh* - too far to the right

A *Nancy Pelosi* - too far to the left

I've now upgraded my dead yank expression to a Corey Lidle.

When I asked my barkeep, a lifetime Phillies fan, to comment about Lidle's accident last summer, he simply replied:  "that was the first high strike he had all year"

don't forget the "prom date"

all lip, no hole
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

I take exception to a "James Joyce" meaning unreadable. Both "Dubliners," his excellent collection of short stories, and the novel "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" are eminently readable.

However, I'm willing to go with a "Finnegan's Wake" as unreadable...........at least by me!

A *Rush Limbaugh* - too far to the right

A *Nancy Pelosi* - too far to the left

I have to object to this as being uninformed and unfair.

You could go with
A *Rush Limbaugh* - too far to the right
A *Randi Rhodes* - too far to the left

Or

A *Denny Haster* - too far to the right
A *Nancy Pelosi* - too far to the left

Please excuse the spelling if I didn't get them rght.

One of my buds frequently thins his drives that roll for maybe 100 yards.  He calls them a Paula Radcliffe:  pretty ugly but runs forever.

Garland, the reference has to be recognizable.  It doesn't work if people think you're talking about Ozzy's late guitarist.

Jason,

The problem is that there are either 1) no far left talk show hosts that anyone would recognize, or 2) I don't know of any far left talk show hosts that anyone would recognize. I suspect it is 1, but as misinformed as I am it could be 2.

Anyway, I think I got the balance right. Two over the top talk show hosts and two politician leaning approximately the same amount in opposite directions.

The original post had far right versus middle left.

I guess I don't get this one either as his work is used in remedial classes.
