World's Best Green?
« on: September 26, 2007, 11:04:11 PM »
No rules for selection, just your opinion of the world's greatest green.  You can do a first impression, and (later) do one upon reflection if you like.  For the truly obsessed or indecisive, lists of 2 to 100 graciously accepted!

Is this the Sitwell Park inspired green? Or is that at St. Andrews Beach?

Slag,

I believe you mean the 17th at Bayside.  The 16th should be blown up and redone from scratch!

I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

I'm confident if Michael weren't a member his opinion would still be the same.

I'd add the 15th at Sebonack

It took a while, thankfully Mr. Hurricane and Mike Nuzzo brought up Pine Valley #2...this would be like asking what is the most impressive ceiling in the world and leaving the Sistine Chapel off the list until about the 12th nomination...please people.

They just don't make'em like that anymore...

Disclaimer: I have seen a very sad percentage of the others listed on this thread so I might be a bit less than objective...but...do you remember that green? I'd bet Franklin would vote for it even if he had to putt his last time through...

 8) ;D :D

Pretty hard to beat #2 at Pine Valley, given that there are about eight (8) greens within a green , the  elevation is unique, the conditions are typically flawless, and you can put pins in every quadrant of the green.

As always, ratings are impossibly personal, and tend to be over valued.

Crump's greens are singularly brilliant in that you can....under almost any condition , two putt even the most difficult green (like #2) with the proper application of knowledge and skill, other "great " greens that will be discussed lack this defining quality.

Yes, I would still say it is one of if not the best greens around even though I didn't have to putt the last time ;D. We actually discussed this very topic at dinner the night before my big bird and after 36 on Saturday. Each of us ranked #2 as the best green at PV and one of the best anywhere. I loved TEPaul's Z putt story.

I want to add #8 Cypress Point to the list as well.

Who are Peper and Verdi and why would I care what they think?  Why would I believe a word they say and not just think it is an attempt to sell more ads or personal books?  Paid for play opinions stink.  I bet they would also pay some professional photo guy to stand on his head and take a picture from a crane looking backwards at a time of day when I am either asleep or at the bar.

The best green is tough, but 17 at Sand Hills comes to mind.
Yesterday I played Aronimink and as a collection they are brilliant.  They have been "restored" to Ross' original designs.  From looking at the drawings it is hard to know how much slope and undulations Ross meant, but they had as much movement as any I have played in a long time.
