Walker Cup Scoring
« on: September 08, 2007, 04:01:21 AM »
Here is a link to the walker cup online scoring:

http://www.thewalkercup.org/scores.sps?pageid=253&pagegid=%7B4CDC9D40%2DBB33%2D411C%2DAA9F%2D2E62C9E92CD8%7D

At time of post, Knost/Johnson had one the first hole of the matches and were 1 up.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

For those of us that like the R&A's habitat and widlife publications that go along with tournaments .

You can find the one for RCD here :

RCD is looking wonderful on the tellybox today, but THAT pond is driving me mental.

The lack of chat on here about The Walker Cup today must surely mean our American cousins are not getting any live coverage .

You know I hear Alliss , Brown et.al. at every tournament they cover going on about how great the course is  , but there is something in their tone today that makes it feel so honest.

I cant remember ever hearing Peter Alliss, Ken Brown gush so much praise about a course before.

But of course , the EBC  had to go and spoil it all , by denying some of us , who had sat here watching it all afternoon , only to be denied the climax because they ran out of time ,

YES MARTIN , I did push the "red button" , but it was not for Freeview viewers , we had all channels showing England v Israel because .............. :-X

I can only hope we get the full coverage tomorrow !

So its tied after the first day with not many surprises.

I would have liked to see Moul play Knost in the singles but its not going to happen.

Its a surprise to me , because when the EBC pulled the plug tonight , it loked like GB&I were in trouble .

Cant remember a day when I have seen so many holes won with pars .

Oh and did I mention how Gary Wolstenhome has no future as a golfing commentator ?

Brian I wonder how he's being reimbursed for his expenses this week?

(I'd love to have seen your face when you heard him being introduced ;))

Brian,
always been there, apparently. There's a natural spring in there, which they 'improved' by CONCRETING the area!!!!! Bleddy Eedjits.

Never ceases to amaze me what can be considered 'improvement' by Greens committees.

I wish this were on TV here.  US wins all 4 in the morning and GB&I has come roaring back in the afternoon. Still anybodys game..

Some of the tactics Colt Knost has used this afternoon , is pretty ..........? , okay I suppose you could call it gamesmanship , but Ken Brown went as far as calling it "bad sportsmanship" .

Ken would say that, wouldn't he, Brian?  Unless your guy has 315 degree peripheral vision, all was kosher.

Otherwise, another runaway USA win.  Ho hum.......

Rich , sorry but I thought the parading around in the green at the last was extremely bad manners .

Add in during the round , standing directly behind the hole , close to the hole , close to his opponent , each time there was a big putt , then it WAS gamesmanship AND bad sportsmanship.

Imagine if it was the Ryder Cup ?

Has there actually been some controversy with some player in the Walker Cup Matches?

How awful. I doubt something like that has ever happened before with these trans-atlantic golf matches between GB and the USA.

And you are dead right, Rich, that certainly was another runaway win by the USA.

Tom , no there has not , but that is only down the GB&I team not rising to the bait .

Is twelve and a half to eleven and a half really a [runaway] victory ?

Tom

Where there's an "International" match of any kind, there is always some sort of "controversy" as far as the British media are concerned, particularly when they lose   You should have seen some of their reporting on the Revolutionary War!  BTW--Are you sure you and Buddy Marucci (and Ben Crenshaw) weren't separated at birth?

Sean and Brian

I only saw the "incident" on the 18th, and I didn't see anything that one doesn't see any day of the week, on the pro tours or even just in the monthly medal.  If the Big Man was doing anything truly untoward and/or unsettling, it was the right and the responsibility of the Wee Man to ask him politely to stop doing it.  That's what I do.  He didn't.  End of "story."

Great match, BTW.

That's interesting, watching here in the US without the Ken Brown commentary, I was surprised at Knost walking around like that.  Didn't think it was gamesmanship but he should have been still...it looked odd and you actually don't see that on the pro tours.

He was still as the putt was struck.  His walking around hardly qualified as anything worth talking about.  Based on the comments here, I was expecting to see something interesting when I watched my recording.

Look a bit more closely next time you watch a pro tournament on the telly.  You can see a lot just by observing.

American, Brian.  I know you Euros aren't terrible knowledgeable about world geography, but I'll concede that this is a tricky one.  Jonathan is from Vancouver, Washington, which is a suburb of Portland, Oregon.  It's about 500 miles south of that other Vancouver in Lumberjackland.

I think what upset Brown and Alliss was that the 18th wasn't the first time Knost had been mobile as his opponent prepared to putt and he had (at least on the 17th) stood behind the hole, not far off the line of the putt (and certainly in line of sight) as his opponent putted.  If this wasn't gamesmanship(and I'll accept that it wasn't) someone needs to have a quiet word with Mr Knost about this.  And about the ridiculous way, having won a half in a great game, he slammed his putter into the ground in frustration someminutes after the game finished.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.
