A recent tour of Cape Cod has shown that the list of top courses may have revised. I didn't check them all out but here's a few that my cohorts are talking about. Some of the old standbys have stood by while other courses have undergone extensive renovations. Its an existing time for golf on Cape Cod so heres my top five.
1. Eastwood Ho!- Sympathetic restoration combined with some great agronomy equals fine golf and exciting architecture. Watch out for the wind and sloping lies, but quite a golfing experience.
2. Cranberry Valley- This Geoffrey Cornish workhorse layout just completed a Mark Mungeam bunker redo and added a "wall to wall" irrigation system. Sure it gets a ton of play but the grand scale and layout are worth the visit.
3. Oyster Harbors-Behind the gates, a fine Ross layout. Not much has changed over the years, a few range and drainage upgrades and a new clubhouse. Still one of the best.
4. Hyannisport-Great location, full of history and Kennedy ambiance, plenty of exciting visuals and conditions are always great.
5. Pocasset- Recent upgrades have greatly improved this partial Ross design. Buzzards Bay wind really adds to the fun, especially after lunch.
On the close list- Nicklaus redesign of Ocean Edge, New Seabury Blue Course, The Vineyard Club, Nantucket National, Cummaquid, Golf Club of Cape Cod.
