SF Bay Area: Peacock — June 19th
« on: June 10, 2007, 04:40:15 PM »
Having received back several e-mails due to bad addresses, I am posting this for Bay Area-ites:

We are hosting a very informal tour of progress at Peacock Gap on June 19th at 4:30pm. All greens are shaped with a few bunkers still in progress. Peacock Gap is in San Rafael. The club is obviously closed, but the new range is open for early arrivals. Send me an e-mail if interested.

Forrest

I would visit if not 8000 miles away.  The driving range at Peacock was the site of my conversion in 1977 from a lovingly taught and carefully learned classic Vardon grip to the baseball grip I have today.....

Rich

PS--send us some pictures when you are done.  I played a fair amount of golf there and would love to see what has been done.

I think it appropriate that we toast to your grip — either one. I sent some images of the range for your keepsake.

Sorry Forrest, can't make it, but consider this a free bump to the other Bay Area folks.

Forrest,

Any chance you could post a plan or description of your work there?

Matt — I am the eighth worst poster of images on GCA. But, I will attempt it. Unfortunately we have an old master plan that is outdated, but it does give most of the meat and routing adjustments. Look for it once I read the manual and posting instructions again.

I had a chance to tour Peacock Gap with Forrest R. yesterday afternoon. I think SF Bay Area golfers will be very pleasantly surprised (even amazed!) with how things turn out there.

Forrest has tweaked the routing a bit and has done a LOT of work around the greens. The greens have been roughly doubled in size, with quite a bit of countour (and a wee bit of quirk) added.

The course should open for play late this year or early in 2008. In the meantime, the range has been re-done and you can now hit off grass, not those ratty mats. Check it out!
