A second course at Sand Hills?

It has been widely reported that Coore and Crenshaw came up with a layout for over 100 holes when they first inspected the Sand Hills property.  With 1000 acres fenced in and another 4000 surrounding, is there any reason to suspect that another course will be built?  If another course would be in the offing, do you think a Mike Keiser approach of using a different architect would be best?  Would any big-names turn down the opportunity because of inevitable comparison making?

It was my impression that Mr. Youngscap was very happy with how things are and had zero intent to build another course.  Certainly the land available would allow for such, but with the small membership and short season there would seem to be no pressing need for it.

Not that it couldn't be fantastic if it did get built....

I actually asked that question of Dick Youngscap (and perhaps even Coore although I'm not sure about that) and the response was no chance at all. This was after I asked his permission to make a copy of the so-called "Constellation Map" which essentially shows the app 136 hole iteration out there.

TEP - I'm pretty sure I was standing near you when you asked that question.  Either that or you told us this later.  My memory's about as good as my ability to hit a 1-iron. But I'm glad I got it correct anyway!

Terry, it is a valid question.  However, the more important question is why would they?  The next 18 would be known as the “second tier” out of the 100+ originally routed holes.  IMHO, there is no need for another 18, the place is perfect except for one thing.   They should grill their steaks instead of broil.  That has nothing to do with the golf however.

I'm not too sure what that means Adam.  Least we forget RWs original observations about the suitablility of his native Nebraska sand hills area potential way back in mid to late 80s before anything out there really took place.  I think he used to refer to the sand hills north of his home which I think was Kearney, as the "Irish Alps". ;) ;D 8)  

Do you think even DY took a cue from RWs comments?

I say let's leave well enough alone.  Could the second course really compare with the first one?

Although, I'll admit, I'd be the first one calling Mr. Youngscap about the possibilities of membership if this ever did happen.

Why in the world would a second course (there is no possibility) push you over the edge to want to be a member?  The best modern course in America is not good enough to warrant membership?  This post makes no sense.

Dick, All I meant, besides paying tribute to RW's native state, was that some peoples tastes vary and feel trees are essential to quality course design and esthetics.

I know Herb Kohler ruined his first 18 when the new config was added and I certainly don't see any reason for DY to fix something that's not broken.

From what I know, they are not taking any new members currently at Sand Hills.  I was assuming that a second course would open up the membership possibilities.  Thus, my post.

Sand Hills has always been and will likely always be a membership by invitation only club.  Won't matter how many courses are on the property.

Question for the architects who have played and/or seen Sand Hills.  How would you like the chance to design and build a second course at Sand Hills?  Assume you have the same freedom C&C had.  Could you make another fantastic course, that also differed from the current one, or would the two courses be close cousins?
