Worst Name For a Golf Outing
« on: March 21, 2007, 09:50:28 AM »
Surely this august group has heard a foul name or two for an outing.  I host a first-of-the-year outing on Good Friday called The Crucifixion Classic.  Can you top that?  Or does this fall within the censorship clause that some are calling for?

Well I can't top what you had, but we saw a bunch of guys trying their best to look like the sopranos holding the "linguini Open" when we were at TPC-MB

I wonder what they call the golfers who regularly play on a Saturday morning at predominantly Jewish clubs, such as Dunham Forest?  It's never deserted then!

I know of one outing called the Georgia Hemeroid Classic.

It's not strictly on topic but I heard a fantastically bad taste description of a cricket match this morning on BBC radio.

First, some background.  The cricket world cup is currently being contested in the West Indies.  In their previous match Pakistan (ranked fourth in the world) were beaten by Ireland in what is probably the most astonishing result ever in international cricket, meaning that they cannot now qualify for the second round of matches.  The morning after that result the Pakistan coach, Bob Woolmer, a former England player, was found dead in what Jamaican police are describing as suspicious circumstances.  

Despite that Pakistan are today playing their final group round robin game.  The BBC reporter described that match as a "dead" rubber :o

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

A former assistant of mine is now the Super at Spring Lake Country Club. They have a ladies invitational tournament every year called the Spring Lake Invitational Tournament. Use the first letter of each word for the title. :-X

Tournament at my club with 2-man teams playing 6 holes scramble, 6 holes better ball, 6 holes alternate shot.  In other words, 6-6-6.

Name? The Satanic Open.

It was a one-year event; something about that name just didn't fly here in the Bible Belt...

Every October, my course grows the rough up, the markers are put a step from the back of every tee, and the pins are put in the toughest position on every green.

The subsequent tournament name?

I cannot imagine why, but this thread prompted me to look up the Dyke Golf Club web site: http://www.sussexgolf.co.uk/dyke/dyke1.htm

I thought that they, if any club, might just happen to have an appropriately named trophy or tournament.  I didn't find any, but I was attracted to a line from the course description:
'the contrast of long hard-hitting holes on the western side and holes of a more adventurous type on the eastern side'.  I think I may now be too old for the adventurous type.  It reminds me of the chap who met his former girlfriend in the street one day.  'How are you, then, holding your own?' she quipped.

I'm going to post this with the understanding that I do not condone racial or ethnic prejudice, or any other kind.
Please do not object, complain, threaten or attempt to harm me or my family in any way.
Please remember that I am a member of one of the ethnic groups involved and while I haven't played in the event, it is my understanding that the name of the event is signed off on by all of the participants and a good time is had by all...

At LaGorce Country Club on Miami Beach, there is an annual, two day event played in a Ryder Cup format between the club's Irish and Irish-American members and the Cuban and Cuban-American members.

It is called the Micks versus Spics... with the best of intentions and all possible humor.

How about the tourney in So Cal a couple of years back that got shutdown for seedy on course entertainment?  I guess they had hookers in tents scattered throughout the course, perhaps on the par 3s. So if you didn't get a hole in one after your tee ball, then you went to the tent.....ahh forget it don't want to go there....

Was that the "Hooks and Hookers 1st Annual invitational"?
