Father, forgive me, I tried not to do it
« on: February 01, 2007, 05:52:14 PM »
Watching the FBR, I am struck by the notion that I - kinda - quite, well, like - the bermuda bunker collars. It's a landscape design thang and I don't give a damn about what they bring or don't bring to the 'playin' o' the gowf'.

Similarly, Turtle Bay's bunker shaping and edges had me interested, intrigued and somewhat visually beguiled.

I admit it. I am a visual landscape design slut.

As a good Scots Calvinist, I have little or no guilt about this. But, as a supposed golf course architectural afficionado, I feel DIRTY.

Help me cleanse myself. Admit to your guilty little secrets. What things do you like that you KNOW you SHOULDN'T? Hmmm?

The first course at We-ka-po, Scott Miller's course, has that same ring of light colored grass outlining each bunker.

You really like that?  ??? :P

I'm not admitting to ANY of the other stuff.  Except maybe a jones for Scottish golf.  ;)

A huge reason that it is done that way to to avoid the extra maintenance of flymowing and edging the ryegrass, other than to just provide definition.

Tony, in that case just wondering why everybody doesn't do it.

And that's just for those who overseed, right?

I personally think that it's for a look too, possibly a person preference. I know that Harbor Town overseeds their banks along with Augusta, TPC, Bay Hill and Sage Valley to name a few. One tends to see the look in the Desert regions for one reason or another-Palm Springs all the way down to Arizona. I'm not sure that look would be as striking in my area because we don't really go dormant long enough to really get the effect. We actually wnet dormant this weekend and usually start to come out the first part of March.
