Zoysia goes brown in Winter, and stays so quite a while. GREAT to play on all Winter, if it is well grown you will never have a bad lie. See Dale Hollow Lake SP golf course, our favorite winter destination.
Zoysia has but one drawback; if the land underneath is moist at all, it is so thick it limits your roll. On the other hand, since it practically tees you ball up in the fairway, perhaps you can use a little extra club

PS: I speak of my own experience. Perhaps zoysia plays otherwise in different soil? And I do not know what it takes to grow. That said, it is my preferred fairway.
