A question arose the other day as to how long this website has been in existence. Does anybody remember? I think the Great Bahto turned me onto it sometime in 1998, but I cannot be sure.
As I recall, there was a sort of technical reorganization that wiped out a bunch of threads a few years back, but my memory has turned to mush. I can see how my dad remembers all of his classmates at Lincoln High in 1946 but has no idea where he left his keys or wallet.
Long lost GCA-ers? How about Johnny Thunders? He had this frenetic, argumentative, inflammatory cadence and tone to his posts, which were always detonated at the most indelicate moments.
Kind of an assh*le, but an entertaining one. I guess he moved on. It is kind of like horse racing, if you can't hang, you have to drop down a few classes. I imagine he found his level in a AOL Chatroom for angst ridden teenagers.
I am uniquely qualified to discuss that subject as I'm blessed with one at home . . . .
And where is young Andrew Bernstein? I suppose he's in his mid-20's by now. Didn't he go to UWV? The kid had a brain, so I am sure he has not come to ill fate - unless of course he married a crazy bitch and is hiding in a bar somewhere.
If I could magically bring one person back - and his contributions were few - it would be Michael M. Thomas ("The Five Foot Shelf" - In My Opinion).
He is the best writer not named Peter Dobreiner I've ever had the pleasure to be awed by. Michael Thomas is certainly the #1. American by miles.
His pieces "How to Save Your Club" and "My Friend Timmonds" for Golf Digest were wonderful. God, what a talent.
