I'm told I'll have service but don't think that will be proven till I'm there?

Jack,

I am on the volunteer staff, so every day.  It looks as though I am free after our mid-day set up so I may be able to break away in the afternoons.  But won't know for sure till I get there Sat.

Hi Steve

I am supposed to be going to the practice day on Tuesday, but it all depends on the arrangements of a funeral I'm will be attending.

Also, I got a spare ticket for that day. I am not sure if they can be transferred, as there is a name on the ticket.

I have tickets for Sat & Sun.   In case he doesn’t see this thread, Padraig Dooley will be there during the practice days.  I’ve met half a dozed GCA’ers so far and each time it’s been a gas meeting such obvious enthusiasts.  Could I suggest we set up a meeting point?

An idea. 45 minutes before the afternoon rounds of the Saturday?  It would be a help if Jack, or someone else who is there during the practice days, could confirm that we can access areas like E.G. main front door of the course clubhouse behind the 18th green?  Any more practical meeting points would be welcomed.

I will email my mobile number to anyone who responds to this, but they won’t be allowed in on the day.

Also I’m flying in early Friday and would welcome suggestions of a pub or friendly club where my friend and I can watch and enjoy some atmosphere. I will be travelling to Kildare in the evening but would consider any suggestion for a great place to enjoy Friday on the TV.

We are flying in Thursday morning and right now planning on a little "work" Thursday and Friday. Not sure of what our agenda is for Saturday or Sunday, but we'll be there and would love to meet up with everyone as well. I have my blackberry so I can check this site as plans progress.

Tony

Where are you staying, and I might be able to suggest a pub you could go to.

I will let you know what areas  you can access at the K Club after I visit on Tuesday.

Thanks Jack,  I'll be staying in Kilcullen but unfortunately not in that very big house accross the street. ;)

It would be great if you can also suggest a meeting point inside the ground once you've had a chance to see what is accessible.

Let's make GCA grate again!

Hi Jug

There is a very fameous pub in Kilkullen called The Hideout. I think they may have done it up, though, which would be a shame.

I have been there a few times during the day, but it was a long time ago now. They used (maybe they still have) have the preserved arm of a bare knuckle boxer called Donnely. He was world champion, or something like that. His arms were so long that he could tie his britches without bending his knees or back.

In Lucan, there's the Angler's Rest and the Strawberry Hall - both very old pubs. It's not too far away.

In the centre of Dublin, there are hundreds of pubs. If you go toward St. Stephen's Green, you'll be near some good pubs like Doheny and Nesbits, Toners and O'Donoghue's (around baggot street). Off Grafton Street, there's Keoghs, The Bailey, Neary's, Sheehans, and lots more. There are also lots of good places to eat around there, although it might be a bit on the expensive side.

My advice would be to stay away from Temple Bar, though. Lots of stag parties etc.

I'm definitely there on Tuesday, might be there on Wednesday, but not after that.
