New Kidd Courses
« on: August 22, 2006, 07:24:25 PM »
I recently did a search regarding new projects for David McLay Kidd, which revealed the following courses:

Stonebrae, a private club near San Francisco; Cascade Highlands, near Bend, OR; and some re-design work at Durban Country Club.

Does anyone have information on these projects?  (I'm aware of St. Andrews No. 7 and the Machrihanish course, as well).

Also, I was wondering about Kidd's course at Powerscourt, Ireland.  I've been to the Powerscourt estate, which is in a beautiful part of County Wicklow, but not played golf there.  Is there anything of interest there, golfing-wise?

Stonebrae is in the East Bay hills, Hayward to be exact.  Its a medium size housing development, should have good views.  I've been trying to get up there but haven't had the time.

I heard recently that Kidd has a site in Fiji and a project in South Africa?
And I also heard about 27 holes at Gleneagles?

Joel- Is Stonebrae open yet? If not, do you know offhand when it will open?

... should have good views

Well that is a positive ... that's some interesting terrain, it will be interesting to see what wins the location battle, the homes or the course ...

I have heard that Kidd is going to be working on a project down in the Dominican Republic....That will be very cool to to see how he works with the existing environment here in the Dominican Republic.

I haven't heard about a project in the Dominican.  He also has something going on in Mexico:

There's two courses in Powerscourt. I am not sure if Kidd designed both. Anyway, the older course is excellent. I've played it many times. They proudly compare the green complexes to Prestwick.

The newer course there I'm not as keen on.

I thought the original Powerscourt was by Peter McEvoy, but I may be mistaken.

Mark

I just looked it up, and you're right. I think the East course (the original one) is far better than the West Course (which must be the Kidd one). Anyway, presumably, the first course was built on the better land.

Arrowood Development press release yesteday about the Kidd course in Bend. To be call Tetherow, after a local pioneer, and a four star hotel/spa run by Dolce International.

I'm assuming this is the same as Cascade Highlands.
