Keiser to Expand Beyond Bandon
« on: August 04, 2006, 11:50:43 PM »
The August 5th Golfweek has an article by James Achenbach on Mike Keiser's future plans in Oregon. I can't find it on the Golfweek site, and would link if I could
*the architect for the 4th Bandon course isn;t chosen
*he has purchased more land on the coast
*will build a course for Bandon residents to play, fee to juniors, cutrate to Oregonians (not the competing Bandon Crossings), tourists pay freight, just like St Andrews
*anticipates an Oregon Coast trail-seven or eight great links courses.

I thought you were planning to take the job at Shadow Hills.

Garland,

You just reminded me of the worst golf course ever and I have never even played it.   ;D

Randy at Shadow Hills is too good of a superintendent to take his job anyways.  I am waiting for a golfclubatlas course.

Peter,

Sorry to have hijacked your thread for a moment. I do appreciate the update on Bandon. Guess I shouldn't be giving up my Oregon drivers license just yet.

Peter, there are may rumors on all those subects. I was told by the best source of all, he was looking for more land. Also he has bought some but not what he wants for a course etc. 4th architech is picked, not picked etc.I think the oppotunity for a group of courses up and down the coast sans Sand Pines of course is wonderful.

I'm betting Palmer and Woods in a collaboration.

Peter Pittock,

If Mike Keiser is successful in creating another "destination" golf complex, it would enhance his Bandon courses, and his Bandon courses would enhance his new venture.

Who amongst us, especially those who would travel a meaningful distance wouldn't want to engage in a two-fer ?

It would make sense to travel far, spend a few days at Bandon and then a few days at the new complex.

It's clear that Mike Keiser is a visionary who also gets it.

Troy!

Just curious. Is the Shadow Hills you are referring to the one that's just outside Eugene? I've played there several times and am wondering why you would characterize it as "the worst".

Just thinkin aloud.. but I'd love to see Hurdzan and Fry get the design..

If they're going to use a Tiger Woods or other "player" name, then it wouldn't be bad to get Curley and Schmidt to be the "consultants."

On my recent trip, two local residents told me that he had broken ground south of town on a course for local residents.  As it is now, they get a discounted rate in the winter, but pay full fees in the summer.  I believe this new course will be preferred greens fees etc for Oregon residents year round as a show of appreciation.  I am curious as to who is the architect for the course.

With respect to the 4th course at the resort, several people suggested that the architect is indeed chosen, but not yet revealed....

If us GCA.com types start naming architects, "who should get it", and our recommendation does get it, do we get a commission-finders fee? ;) ;D

In that case I nominate De Vries, Hanse, Proctor and Axeland, Liddy, Moran, any of Doak's entourage that breaks out, likewise C&C prodigies, and any Dye... and I only want 10% ;) ;D 8) ::)

PS:  no check that and skip the finders fee- just free golf for 10 years. :P

No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Eric,
The architect of the course south of Bandon is Dan Hixson.
This link gives more details on the project and personalities.

Does Keiser consider Nicklaus or Dye for the fourth course?

Personally, I'd like to see Jeff Brauer get the job.
