O/T The most exciting thing of my life
« on: July 23, 2006, 08:23:31 PM »
...besides playing golf with Tom Doak.

Today at Nile GC I was playing pretty well.
Carded 7(!) birdies en route to a -4 round of 63
I am very excited
The reason is that is the junior course record, making me (finally) the junior course champ.
I play there everyday, and this feels extra good.

I know o/t is not really welcomed on this site but I couldnt help but share my excitement.

Jordan,

How could playing with Tom Doak be more exciting than shooting 63, anywhere?!

Jordan...yesterday I played with a 12 year old, and he hit from the "black" tees...about 7100 yards, and damned if he didn't shoot just a couple over par...and this kid was small, did not have super modern technology, nor did he have a blinding fast swing speed....

My question is, what are you kids doing to play so well?

Jordan, congrats on your round, that is quite an accomplishment.  That is great that you'll have the scorecard posted in the clubhouse, that's a nice momento.

63, playing with Tom Doak, getting laid by Paris Hilton...what would be the best??????
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Craig-
How far does a small 12 year old without modern technology and a reasonable swing speed playing from 7100 actually drive
it?

Nice goin', Jordan

I was having a good driving day..meaning I was hitting some 260-280 yards...and the kid was no more than 30-40 yards behind...

I asked him what he hits from 150 and he said 6 iron.

Craig-
He must be a terror around the greens.

(I usually hit an 8 from 150 and I try to stay well below
 7100 yards when I play!)

By the way Craig..this 12 year old played the back nine from the blue tee's and pretty much kept up with us...distance wise...we hit from the blacks...he had a set of Taylor Made Burner irons...or something similer,  and what looked like a modified Big Bertha....early vintage...driver...

What I really, really like, other than his great tempo...was he walked up...teed up, and hit the ball...no messing around. And on the green he got his line while we putted, and when it was his turn, he stepped up and stroked it...I think he played faster than Daly!

Tomorrow he's playing in a junior tournament on my course...I'll have to check in on him.

No getting laid until after there is a wedding
 :)

Doak was the best--easily.

BUT, being a junior club champ is pretty darn cool.
I mean, the course is over 50 years old.
It's the Nile!!
I play it everday!!
Now I get to play it everyday as the junior club champ!!!

WHOA!!!
 :o

Brock,
In a month when I win the junior tourney I will get my picture hung up as well!!
When I first started playing it was the only time I ever played with relatives and they have always thought I have sucked because I never play with them anymore (I see them a lot though).  Pretty much they taught me the game but didnt have any time after to play with a crappy golfer like I used to be.  That was 20 months ago, when I starrted playing golf.
Every time they hear about a good score of mine they tell me it is BS because of what they used to see.
Now, today, I proved what I can do, and that feels good.
Best of all, my uncle wants to play golf with me again, and its been a while!!

Jordan, I've obviously never seen the course.  From the scorecard online I see some short par 4s.  Can you drive at the greens on these?  The reason I ask, the city of Winter Park where I live has a little 9-holer and the holes that are around 230 are blocked by big trees and it is often better to just hit 7i, sw.  Also, the greens are very small.  Is that the case here?

Good goin'.  I remember how excited I would get when I broke through a scoring barrier.  One of the things that makes golf great.

For me, 2 of the holes are drivable

Most of the holes dogleg and you actually have to hit real goodshots

the real course record is 62, so it plays toughh
