Is there anyone on this board that remembers the movie?

Deborah Kerr takes a young student to her bed to alleviate his fear that he maybe somewhat light in his loafers. After the event Kerr says to him, "When you speak of this, and you will, please be kind."  

I wonder if this is Mickleson's wish right now?

I think I saw an earlier post from someone (sorry, can't remember who) that (deliberately or inadvertently) coined a new phrase for a bad hole.


What do you call a double bogey made from the middle of a fairway?  

A 'full Monty'!


Sorry Monty, I was actually hoping you were going to win when you were playing 18.  You looked on top of your game, until those 'aliens' took over your body.  I didn't think my preferred player Geoff Ogilvy could win at that stage (he was one behind as Monty was playing 18, and was obviously about to go two behind by dropping a shot at 17, wasn't he - NOT).

Deborah Kerr as in 'Star' - one of my favorites.

I went into the round rooting for Phil but started to think of what a great thing it would be for Monty to win and just when I finally start rooting for the guy he takes the pipe.  I thought Montgomery was great in the post round press conference however.

I feel for both of them and for Furyk whose missed putt on 18 seemed self-inflicted as well with all of the backing off.

Perhaps from this episode Mickelson will gain the wisdom not to care how he is treated!

To his everlasting credit, he went out and faced the media, and gave them what they needed.  He could have ducked out and didn't. He participated in the trophy ceremony. He congratulated Ogilvy in a public arena...how many others would have done same?

We should never wish humiliation on an individual, even a "spoiled millionaire," because we bring humiliation on ourselves, sooner or later, in proportion to our hubris.  We need no help!

And so it must be noted, that hubris can lead to tragedy, but in humiliation is forged the singular quality of maturity: wisdom.

Crash and burning can be explained, but in the face of common sense, sheer stupidity will never go unnoticed. I fear that for years to come, sports talk and replays of this moment will have this golf episode ranked at, or near the top of the all time colossal brain spasms.

Just as we readily speak of a "Van De Velde", or even a Roberto DiVicenzo signing an incorrect score card, there are singular moments, completely unlike the torturous unraveling of a Norman at the Master's, that will live in infamy.

Lefty's self-assessment of "I am such an idiot" including all the sideshow happenings at the 18th, will be such a moment in sports history. And, just as Di Vicenzo's comment of "I am such a stupid" remains in our golf lexicon, Phil's will be added. So when they speak of this, and they will, it will not be kind.
