Will there be any grass left in the fairways in twenty? They have shown many sand filled divots so far that indicate sparce growth to me.

Do the tree advocates factor in the fact that TREES GROW?

Hate to be a smart-ass on this one but the owners, members and tourstaff must not be as forward-thinking as you.

You might also give Winged Foot a call.

Happy Easter,

Mayday,
I wrote this in the HT thread earlier....
"To say that there trees at HT are dense is erring on the side of caution!  I cannot answer that question completely other than LC has a much more open feel to the entire course and to some, part of the charm at HT, is the dense tree lined fairways. Everything is bigger here-our greens, fairways, bunkers and Pete designed it that way. I think that they keep the tree lines dense at HT to keep the homes out of view also. They is a ordinance here on HHI that makes it VERY difficult to cut trees down. We've actually had to go to the board of HHI to get permits and show what other Top 100 clubs are doing and how were being restricted. Much of our tree removal started after my boss arrived and we've been able to remove 200ish in his time here. We are currently looking at a massive tree removal, around 500, but like I said, it's VERY difficult to get permitting to do so."

Scott,

Winged Foot has pulled out a ton of trees.

Mayday,

I played Sand Barrens and Hidden Creek over the weekend. As you know, both are on similar property, but obviously the architects had two different views on width. Not only does the punch out shot get old at Sand Barrens, but they are struggeling with a few greens in dense areas.

Overseeded fairways make divots much more apparent on television, especially from the blimp shots. In the early 90's at Bay Hill, we DIDN'T overseed the fairways, in part because of the above statement. It would make the fairways look rather beaten up from the air.

If the fairways at Harbour Town hadn't been overseeded, you probably wouldn't have even noticed the divots!!

I hadn't even mentioned the shade on the greens. I wish them good luck.

   Doug,

    Thanks for that info.

Mayday,
You wouldn't have seen the divots because of their small fairways and amount of play, there wouldn't have been any grass!  :)
