Thanks, guys. Been writing about golf for 25 years, and the interesting thing is that for all of the hundreds of articles on architecture, the two columns that have gotten the biggest response ever were about family issues and being a father. There was one about my daughter four years ago when she got really sick, and this one on Sean O'Hair. So it shows that people have their priorities in perspective, which I think is great. As for winning an award, it's very meaningful but also a matter of luck, since there is so much great writing out there and we are all lucky to have so many fine people writing about this game.
Everyone at the awards dinner gave a nod to the late Herbert Warren Wind, who was absent this time around. One of the highlights was earlier in the day, when the folks from ANGC donated a painting of Amen Corner they had commissioned by Linda Hartough - forever to be on display in the press building as a tribute to Herb, who named that little piece of golf ground in a 1958 SI article.
