Black Lake in Onaway, MI

the family vacation takes me near Black Lake this year....

for those who have played, what are your thoughts? Dave Seanor in Golfweek said it's "stunningly un-Rees-like"; do you agree?

No. It's very much Rees-like. Much overated among Michigan's public courses.  A very good, solid course, but not among the 20-25 best.

I've not been there but do recall that Ron Whitten thought it was very good and wrote it up some years back.  Perhaps you could find more on his site?

I played there about 5-6 years ago and enjoyed the course, but don't remember that many holes. Some long walks. Carts encouraged because they had bunker rakes on them. But I found it's a long way if you're staying in Traverse City. Go play.
