Finally - an update. Apologies for delays - I am a slave of the global capitalist system which can be a gruelling task-master.
The event will be from October 2-4 2006. It is based loosely on the Ryder Cup format - two teams of twelve from US and Europe, with two sets of foursomes matches, two sets of fourball matches, and one set of singles.
We have the tee at Hoylake from 2-3pm on Monday 2nd, and will probably play 4 BBBB.
We have the tee again at Hoylake from 10am, and at 2.30pm, on Tuesday 3rd - both times probably to play foursomes.
We have the tee at Wallasey on Wednesday 4th from 9.30-10.30 and 1.45-2.45. We will presumably play 4 BBBB and singles here. Since Wallasey is the home of stableford, that format will apply to at least part of the golf there.
We have a booking at the Leasowe Castle (1592
) for twelve twin rooms for the nights of October 2 and 3.
We will have dinner in the club at Hoylake on the evening of Tuesday 3rd. If circumstances allow, Mark Rowlinson has offered to sing!
Costs:
Hoylake - £115 on Monday, £165 on Tuesday (both include lunch). With luck, this could be negotiated to £250 all in. The dinner will cost £30 per head, ex-drink.
Wallasey golf is £55 per head for the day, £5 per head for lunch.
Leasowe Castle is £85 per night for twin room, £70 per night for single.
If you assume another dinner at about £30, and you share a room - all in cost, if you play all five rounds, will be around £450 (pre-drink).
To deter frivolous suitors there will be a deposit - £80 or $140 per person. This should be paid by cheque to Sean Arble, 36 The Close, Cleeve Prior, Worcestershire, WR11 8LF, England. Indicate your interest on GCA by all means, but if you are really serious, send Sean the cheque!
In the event we are oversubsribed, first come, first served will apply. In addition, if we know in good time that we have a good turnout, I will approach the club to see if we can organise a match with RLGC, to run alongside the Buda event. First come first served would also apply to that event - obviously there is no guarantee that this will take place, though it would certainly be fun. With or without that match, it would certainly be good if we can get club members to come to the dinner too and add some local spice.
Those who have previously indicated an interest include - and I have probably forgotten some names - Sean Arble, Mark Rowlinson, Rich Goodale, Ran Morrissett, Gene Greco, Bill McBride, Tiger Bernhardt, Lloyd Cole, Andy Levett, Paul Turner, John Krystynak, Tony Muldoon, Craig Disher, Chris Kane, Brent Hutto, Michael Whitaker, Darren Kilfara, Nick Leefe of Alwoodley/Hoylake, and sundry members of Littlestone (who we played last year).
I hope you can all make it - please confirm/reconfirm/retract - and many others besides! Please indicate whether you are starter for the whole event or only parts, and whether you want accommodation, so as to assist with planning.
As Mark Rowlinson's post elsewhere shows, in the lucky event we are oversubscribed, we would not want for good places to play in the general vicinity.
I am sure there are many small issues I have forgotten about and some big ones (who will be the captains?
) but this should get the ball rolling.
