Golf Connoisseur's 100 Most Prestigious Clubs

That font of golf journalistic quality, Golf Connoisseur has published its long awaited contribution to the annoying world of rankings - The 100 Most Prestigious Private Clubs in America!

While the premise is somewhat nauseating ("[t]hese are clubs most sought after by those who have the means, and the connections, to join them..."), the pictures accompanying the list are pretty nice on the eyes. Check it out:

Golf Connoisseur

By the magazine's own admission it is "not a 'greatest course' list," because "there are already too many of those." But it is interesting to observe how closely this list correlates other lists that are "greatest course" rankings.

It raises an interesting question regarding the relationship between prestige of the club and quality of the course, and the extent (if any) to which the presence of the former influences the opinion of the latter.

Unfortunately, too many people confuse ultimate privacy with quality architecture. Sadly, those two elements are not always tied to the hip.

I concur with you that often times the ignorant who assess courses often fall prey to the "exclusivity" aspect and simply assess the architectural aspect as a second place item.

SPDB:

It does indeed raise and intersting question. And that question obviously is---Is the correlation or similarity of the exclusive club list to the other top 100 lists that have do with with "architectural" quality or the quality of the golf courses accurate?

What do you think?

   Maidstone should be at the top of this list for reasons I've listed in another thread.

    This list is automatically null and void having Pine Valley ahead of Augusta National and Seminole. ???

This list is absolutely null and void.  I don't know very many persons beating down the doors to try and join Myopia.  Wonderful golf course but as a Club ??? Doubful at best ::)

How do you describe the club atmosphere @ Myopia?  I'm just curious.

I was also struck at how the list correlated with the other lists.
