Pinehurst day trip
« on: February 26, 2006, 11:19:14 PM »
I'm going on a week-long family vacation to Franklin, NC in a few weeks, but I'm going to take a day out for myself and drive to Pinehurst for the day to check it out, since I've never been there.  I'm unfortunately not going to be able to golf, :( but I'd like to hang out and absorb the atmosphere of the place.  The trouble is, I'm not sure of the best places to visit.  The Pinehurst clubhouse and the Carolina are obvious choices, and I was thinking of taking in the Tufts Archives.  Does anyone have any other suggestions about places to go in Pinehurst?  Are there any great golf shops?  What about golf-related book stores?  I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Chris

I think you'll enjoy checking out Burchfield's Golf Gallery in town

I liked the meals and accomodations at The Holly Inn.

Old Sport, the Harvard Building, proprietor Tom Stewart, smack in the middle of town. Great shop, wonderful atmosphere.

I'd also walk Pinehurst No. 2, taking time to stop at Ross' old house left of the 3rd green.

Chris,

I agree with Brad. Definitely walk No. 2.

And a guy like you shouldn't miss the Tufts Archive either.

Brad & Jeff,

First of all, let me thank everyone for their suggestions so far!  I think I'll have a tiring day in Pinehurst, but well worth it!

I would love to walk No. 2, but does anyone know how one would go about arranging that?  I'm assuming first thing in the morning would be best, but I could be completely wrong...
