The Worst Feature Interview ever...
« on: December 20, 2005, 07:17:18 PM »
..is now posted. The questions are great as Dan Wexler posed them but the answers leave much to be desired.

The good news is that Chris Clouser's Feature Interview on Perry Maxwell will be posted in a few short weeks.

Fire away with any questions on how the web site is run, etc.. One question frequently asked is 'How do I join the Discussion Group'? The answer is to email me at morrissettr@ccafinancial.com, tell me something about yourself, and make note especially if you are in the golf industry or from outside of the United States.

Merry Christmas!

Cheers,

Tom Huckaby

Yeah, that was the worst.

 ;D

Very much just kidding.  That was great stuff, fantastic reading.  There is good reason the man gets his frequent title, and it goes far, far beyond how he describes that himself.

And I say this as one of the CRUSHED.

I own you next time though, Ran.  And lest we forget, I CRUSHED you at Black Mesa.

 ;D ;D ;D

On a serious note, jeez that interview should be required reading for one and all regarding proper site etiquette, and the meaning and worth of magazine rankings.

TH

ps - horrible lack of manners, late addition here:  MANY thanks for this site, Ran.  Oh yes it has a rather large bit of meaning to me.   ;D

Very interesting Interview Ran.

I echo the thanks others have given and look forward to joining the ranks of "contributors" this year.

It was interesting to see the path you took towards GCA.. I only wish my fights with my brothers at age 10 would have been about the merits of Pinehurst #2 vs. Harbortown!

Thanks again,

Geez, and to think I thought Mucci was "golf's most beloved figure." ;)

In hindsight, I feel fortunate to "have righted the ship" (your words) for the win after you had come back from 4 down in our match or I might be listed among the "crushed".

What a distinguished group of slayed GCAers!!

Great interview.

Ran, are you the eldest, the middle or the youngest of the three brothers?

Is the ability to take your dog with you on the golf course very common? Today?  I haven't noticed this anywhere in Australia.

If we were allowed to do that, my wife would be much more interested in golf.  Late afternoon/evening walks/golf would be very attractive.  And yes, we do use the plastic doggy-doos bags wherever we walk. ::)

Lastly, all the great matches have a special place – shaking a stunned Pat Mucci’s hand on the 14th green (I repeat – the 14th green) at Inniscrone after CRUSHING him, shaking Ted Sturges’s hand at any Raynor course because he always folds like a cheap suit, CRUSHING Jim Urbina at PacDunes, CRUSHING Jeff Mingay at Cape Breton Highlands, CRUSHING Mark Studer at Oakmont, CRUSHING Rich Mandell at Southern Pines, CRUSHING George Blunt at Royal Sydney, CRUSHING Geoff Childs at Beechtree, CRUSHING Chip Oat on the West Course at Merion, CRUSHING Brian Silva at Black Creek, CRUSHING Adam Clayman at Pinion Hills, CRUSHING Rick Holland at Silloth on Solway (though technically the match wasn’t over until he missed a putt for a halve on the 18th green) , CRUSHING Tom Huckaby at Sand Hills, CRUSHING Bob Harrison at the Moonah Course at National, CRUSHING Jeff Goldman at Tobacco Road, CRUSHING Brad Miller at Prairie Dunes, CRUSHING Jeff Silverman at Riviera, CRUSHING Noel Freeman at Cuscowilla, CRUSHING Ben ‘Cowering’ Dewar at Casa de Campo, CRUSHING Pat Mucci twice (I repeat twice as in a DOUBLE CRUSHING) at Sand Hills in a prime example of a great course producing a great champion. The list goes on and on.

This is one of the greatest things ever printed on GCA.  Hillarious.  I hope to someday play with Ran but hopefully never join the CRUSHED group.

So far I've skimmed your interview.  I'll read it in detail later.

Thanks for everything.  Merry Christmas.  Thanks for letting me being a student and participate.  I've learned a lot, and started to make some real friends.

Had I any inkling that one day you would grow up to defame me and so many others so scurrilously, I'd have pitched the damned story to Weekly World News instead of SI. I am, in a word, CRUSHED...

Ran - At the risk of being a kiss-***, thanks for giving the interview, it was a great read.  The World Atlas of Golf was my introduction to this world, and through this site I had the pleasure of watching Mark Rowlinson personalize it this summer.

I think the line that gives the most insight into your humility, besides the paragraph of the many CRUSHINGs, is:
Quote
People who use golf as some sort of status symbol are destined to go unfulfilled. Golf is only meant to be a small part of one’s life, centering around health, relaxation and having fun with friends/family.

I think everyone joins me in saying Thanks, we are privileged to be a part of this site.  Though I'd hate to be the one to divulge the secret weapons used in the CRUSHING of Mr. Goldman at Tobacco Road.  ;)

I recommend to the administrators of the site, that for one person, and one person only, that they allow him to post under a nickname and, as one can tell, it won't be anonymous.

Yep, give Ran the nickname of "The Crusher ..."[/i]

It's interesting that Ran chooses to list but two days, out of many days of matches between us.   Either he can't recall or prefers to ignore the numerous matches played prior to and subsequent to the match at Inniscrone, where he definitely had an out-of-body experience and played far beyond his ability.

The massacre at GCGC, and the debacle at Plainfield come to mind.  Throw in Hollywood, Old Marsh, Hidden Creek, Boca Rio, Pine Tree and many, many more.

How he could forget Plainfield, where he was 5 up after only 7 holes, only to be dormied on the 15th green.

It's also interesting how he conveniently forgot some additional information regarding our rounds at Sand Hills.

How could he have overlooked telling you that we had three matches per round, one where he received 12 shots, another where he received 10 shots and the last where he received 8 shots ?

To his credit, he played with hickories, and he played exceedingly well, needing only a par on # 18 to break 80, which is a terrific feat with any clubs, let alone hickories.

Still, he barely won the 12 shot match, hardly CRUSHING his opponent, having to rely on an excessive amount of strokes, only conceded due to an excessive amount of whining for the prior 24 hours, when, on the 17th green, his putt, hit with the force of a catapult on a Navy Carrier, was deflected by a stone, then hit the back of the cup, severely damaging it, before leaping into the air and falling into the cup, the memory of which remains a difficult pill to swallow.
Especially when my pure putt to tie spun out of the hole, unable to find stones, pebbles or miscellaneous debris scattered about the green to deflect it into the hole, as my opponent had managed to do.

But, how did he fare on the 10 shot and 8 shot matches ?
Ah, they were over long before he reached the 17th green, and perhaps that's the reason he can't remember them, they occured so long before his miracle on the 17th green.

One must view Ran's victories as one views a stopped clock.

It's only enjoys victory twice a day. ;D

Great interview with some interesting background for those of us that haven't been here since the beginning.

Thank you for pulling this site together!  It's amazing how many people you've impacted positively here.  You couldn't have possibly ever imagined it being this big when it all began.

"The Worst interview ever......is now posted".

Ran always posts the notice on the DG of the "Feature" interviews and that's his lead-in. That title is classic Ran Morrissett. The man has a great off-beat sense of humor that has to have something to do with the fact that he has a size 9 3/4 size hat and is obviously very intelligent in some odd way.

Sorry about the 1,000 bugs in the room at Sand Hills, Ran, but, hey, Nebraska bugs have feelings too you know. When in Nebraska it's only right and proper to experience the regional, local, ethos, aura and interests and obviously I had an A/C moment when I left the screen door open. I'm sorry but I'm sure the next morining you noticed most of the 900 dead bugs were on my side.

Hey...
I thought I crushed both you and Ben at Teeth of the Dog???

This month alone, I have found myself walking down the fairways of three great courses (which were separated by over 2000 miles) with your profiles in hand.

This site has been most enriching both personally and professionally.

Thank you.
