Erotic GCA

We loonies, with nothing better to do with our time, spend hours on this site discussing the merits of flashed-up bunkers, green speeds, tree removal programmes and compulsory carries of 300 yards.  But Stanley Thomson managed to create a few erotic mounds and bunkers and there is a slightly suggestive green site at West Sussex.  What, in GCA terms, really turns you on?

There is a slightly suggestive green site at West Sussex?  On purpose, or were you just having one of those days?

I was as open to suggestion as anyone when I played West Sussex at 21, and I didn't even notice whatever you're referring to!

Have you played the Cleopatra hole at Stanley Thompson's Jasper Park?  That hole fits your description perfectly.  I think Ran has a pic in the writeup.

'I discussed this hole with Geoff Cornish and then played it some months later.Thompson,according to Geoff, enjoyed upsetting his clients with various holes that were quite suggestive.Cleopatra was a lady with her feet near the tee and her head was the green.The bunkers by the green were her hair.Other details were made obvious with mounds and bunkers.When the railroad president who was reviewing the course saw Cleopatra there was suprise,anguish and a revision of the hole in record time.The entire story was also told me at Jasper Park.Thompson was truly the Toronto Terror!

My not turned in par 5 design for the Golf contest.

The Spectacle bunkers? if they had been named the Spectaculars.

A certain photoshopped bunker at Sand Hills.

I just figured out why I'm such a poor bunker player.

The Mae West hole was at Bel Air. Today, the breasts (mounds) have been sadly undergone a masectomy.

Desmond Muirhead had several holes designed around a woman's anatomy.  SEVERAL!

Tom, I can't remember whether it's the short 8th or drive-and-pitch 9th at West Sussex, but I fancy the latter, which has an uphill shot to the green played between two mammary mounds.  They were pointed out to me by the Secretary.  I, of course, would never have noticed.

Tony, I am shortly to become better acquainted with Sandy Lodge as I'm going to write their centenary book - but I cannot start until after Easter next year.

Pete,  I'm sorry, but I've never played golf in Canada and if I continue to play as dreadfully as I'm doing at the moment I may never play anywhere ever again!

I don't think Thompson tried to upset his clients without good cause, and in the case of the 'Cleopatra' hole at Jasper, his deep-pocketed client had fallen behind on paying him for his services.

the olympic club ocean course has a pseudo mae west hole on the back nine - i believe 14 or 15
