Tiger @the Buick
« on: July 29, 2005, 04:56:49 PM »
is anyone paying attention to what Tiger is doing at the Buick today?

Eleven under thru 17 holes today....holy, sweet jesus! He's hit 94% of the greens in regulation and his putting is dead on. Amazing round of golf.

The pros eat up Warwick Hills big time almost every year. Still, 11 under is scary good.

Yes, I'd say a 61 isn't too shabby a round of golf.

Back to back eagles on a 5 and a 4 never hurts a round.

Neither does a driving average over 350. Sets up a nice head to head with Vijay.

Note to Phil Blackmar;

Narrow tree lined fairways, with soft greens closely surrounded with deep rough, does not a substantial test make.

somehow 30 under par (possible) does not excite me.

Another indication of a Tour venue being hopelessly overpowered?

Tigers putt on 17...

Was that an MJ sort of look from Tiger when that putt dropped! "Oh yeah baby, I'm good!"

Adam:

Maybe it was a good test, the #1 and 2 players ended up first and second.

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

How many years is it now that Tiger appears (again) to be the most improved player on Tour?

What's the over/under on Tiger at Baltusrol?  I'll bet with those wafer thin fairways and pasture-deep roughs he's going to spend the PGA in recovery mode and not finish in the top 30.

What do you think?

If Jack Shot 63 in his era at Baltusrol, I'll bet we'll see at least our first 50 something in the PGA.

Warwick Hills was as exciting as Augusta, wasn't it Cary?

Jes/Cary - I haven't the cahunas (sp) to take the bet.  I'm all mouth!  But I do thin Tiger has his biggest challenge of the four majors this year....

Honestly Cary, I thought it was exciting. 24 under par, and Tiger hitting driver every hole, is the kind of action Finchem and Buick need to keep ratings up.
And it's that kind of action, Hootie and the boys, have gauranteed for the weekend, with their set-ups. Having one of IMG's superstars on the tube for eight hours over the weekend isn't a bad thing, is it?

But please don't be sucked into the notion that the gca is compelling, just because the course is on TV.

Man, it's hard for Tiger to get a break.  Adam is right - it did make for exciting golf.

The fact that Tiger is conciously playing very aggressive is great for the tour, fan-wise.  Not so good for the rest of the players, though :)

I get Tiger in the top 30 and you get everything outside of that? That's what I mean by the under.

Count me in with JES II...I'll take Tiger in the Top 30 for all the $$$ anyone wants to "LOSE". ;)

Sully,

If we could book all the action from these "Anti-Tigerites", we'd never have to work again!! ;D

He's been 1st, 2nd, 1st in the 3 majors...I'd be shocked if the narrower fairways of Baltusrol keep him out of the top 5, let alone the top 30.  Although if the setup gets extremely goofy, you never know...Ben Curtis & Shaun Micheel will be waiting around the corner.

Jamie,

I figured I had to clarify my post #14 with post #20 because the bet seemed to strange. I'll even let you in on half of Cary's actino if you want. It's no guarantee, but it sure looks like a pretty good bet.

Obviously, VJ Singh's new strategy of driving the ball everywhere--eg just hit it as far as possible regardless, paid off again. Depressing but true, and on a tree-lined course, no less, this time.
