Check Out The Big Brains On GCA
« on: January 07, 2005, 05:11:50 PM »
I am honestly impressed by the big brains on this web-site.  There appears to be an abundance of intellectual capacity.  Either that, or I'm easily impressed.

Coincidence? or is there something about golf course architecture that appeals to the intellect?  I've always viewed golf course architecture on a relatively simple plane (or is it plain?).

Was it Chuck D or Flavor Flav or Kool Moe Dee who said, "Don't believe the hype!"?

George,

I think you have just made internet Discussion Board History...I cannot imagine that "Chuck D, Flavor Flav, & Kool Moe Dee" have ever been brought up in the same discussion as Golf Course Architecture...let alone "intellect".  You are the man... ;D

I believe technically both Chuck D and Flavor Flav said "Don't believe the hype!" at various points during the song.  Since we are admittedly striving for accuracy on this site I just wanted to make sure that we were "Hip-hop'ly Accurate".

Curious, yes.

I'm curious to know the net decrease in the Gross Domestic Product caused by this website.  ;D

Mike Hendren,

Being that this is a golf oriented site, I would be much more impressed if you commented on the fine playing abilities of our contributors.  Or maybe you could say some nice things about how discerning, knowledgeable, and respectful  we are as a group regarding golf architecture and its practitioners.  Being such an honest, agreeable sort, maybe you can't.  Not that I am questioning your affinities, but are there some really good looking guys on the site as well?  Or are there just some smart, ugly hacks?  We did play some ugly golf at Cuscowilla, didn't we?

Mike Hendren,

Being that this is a golf oriented site, I would be much more impressed if you commented on the fine playing abilities of our contributors.

Most I've played are still looking for that golf course covered with cardboard - they're better on paper.  The notable exception is Pete Lavalee, who played a beautiful round of golf Sunday at Cuscowilla - golf as it was meant to be.

Or maybe you could say some nice things about how discerning, knowledgeable, and respectful  we are as a group regarding golf architecture and its practitioners.

I am fascinated by golf course architecture.  However, I'm blown away by the PASSION many on here have.  The lack of respect for the likes of RTJ, Fazio and Rees Jones is appalling at times.

Being such an honest, agreeable sort, maybe you can't.

Thanks for the compliment. To paraphrase part of a prayer we recited in church a couple of weeks back:  I'm here to understand - not to be understood.

Not that I am questioning your affinities, but are there some really good looking guys on the site as well?

Be careful lest you be tossed out of the Texas chapter of the He Man Liberal Haters Club.  I do have a male crush on the gentleman that conceded my three footer on 13 Sunday at Cuscowilla when I was four down.

Or are there just some smart, ugly hacks?  We did play some ugly golf at Cuscowilla, didn't we?

There's nothing pretty about a caveman killing his lunch either.

Pat:

As you know, being the "fact fanatic" you are the entire accent needs to go on "savant". But for the purposes of being "Pat Mucci's Professor" I guess even an "idiot savant' would do just fine!

Jamie:

Technicially, perhaps those rappers haven't been brought up on here before in the context of golf architecture but that infamous Philadelphia bad-boy rapper and drug dealer "Huge "Puffy" Wilson" certainly has been.

It was during those infamous Merion bunker project threads (complete with the detailed description of the "puffy and upholstered" look of those new Faz/MacDonald & Co/Huge Puffy Wilson bunkers).

You may not have been aware of it but Huge Puffy Wilson is the illegitimate black grandson of that straight-laced, aristrocratic, genius Merion course designer Hugh Irvine Wilson.

TE, I also have it on good authority that the 'SUICIDE' of one Mr Crump was years later the major factor behind the shooting of Tu Pac...it is believed that same black mother that was involved in the birth of the unknown Wilson child, also gave birth to a little girl farthered by Crump..he could not handle the shame and thus the apparent suicide.

The entangled web continues....that little girl...had a son, who was a part of the Crypts that were shown much disrespect by one Tu pac..and thus Ti Pac had to go.
The disrespect had something to do with a tee time at PV.

Mike, Is this a set up for the lack of grey matter at a University of Tennessee Alumni function? I too enjoy the deepness of thoughts which some of the treehouse share with us on a regular basis.

Somehow, I'm thinking that the above, Cirba-Klein asked and answered is about the most indicative marker of the Big Brain GCA theory as I've observed on this site. It's downrite Socratic!!! ;D ;D ;D
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

I remember a while back a discussion that evolved into the complete analysis of a mythical Mackenzie bunker, on a long since defunct 9-hole course on the Isle of White. The detail was astounding. Scared the s**t out of me.

Tiger,

Good news.  I put an LSU bumper sticker on my truck and am now permitted to park in the handicap space everywhere I go.  Thanks for loaning us the younger Clausen by the way.  He sure "gigged" those Aggies.

Mike Hendren,

Send me one of those LSU stickers so that I too can get special parking priviliges and permission to drive my golf cart to the edge of the greens.

You didn't go to the Cotton Bowl did you?  At a party the night before, I had to caution several over-enthusiastic Aggies.  It didn't take much; they weren't very positive about their chances.

That TP Pete played Cuscowilla well doesn't surprise me.  He was making some real progress as it was getting dark at Athens CC.  However, Pete does some of his best work late at night.  An accomplished player at the 19th hole, he is a true 5 on the course, and a sandbagging scratch at the bar.

As to liberals, really, I love most of them, even Moriarty, Childs, and Goldman.  I do pray every day that they will see the light.  I am not holding my breath.
