I assume that John is commenting  on the fact that Vijay went 40-28 in his first round at the Canadian Open.  He played the back 9 first and shot 40, made the turn and shot 28 on the front.

I googled 28 and it is a pretty cool number...I can only hope that John was not referencing the Neo-Nazi symbol for Blood and Honour....with B being the 2nd letter in the Alphabet and H being the 8th.....maybe all this talk about Tiger and Wie was just a front.

That sounds like some of my Canadian golfer friends--some of them are awesome on the front nine but they can never manage the next nine generally blowing sky-high. That's why I always say Canadians are only good for one nine---the first nine. It appears Vijay is sort of like a backward Canadian Indian.

And that reminds me of what my good Canadian friend who knew Moe Norman and who lives across the field from me said to me at dinner last night. He said Moe's ability to concentrate could be unbelievably fragile sometime and he was a mess. He said Moe's ball striking ability was everything anyone heard it was and more but he could go off in a second and it wasn't pretty. He said he went to see Moe play the final round in a big Canadian tourney one time and he was spectacular but somebody tied Moe and he had to go into a playoff at which point Moe hit his opening tee shot way into the woods on the right, rushed in there and started batting the ball all over the place will constantly saying loudly to himself; "Moe was only ready for 18 holes, Moe was only ready for 18 holes".

Speaking of Canadian golfers my Canadian friend told me that Ed Ervasti, one of the most enduring amateur competitive Canadian golfers ever shot a 74 in a tournament this summer. Ed Ervasti is 90 years old now!!!! Do you think that might be a world record??? Imagine---16 shots under your age!!!

Tom,

May I remind you about who won the war of 1812, obviously Americans are less capable of finishing what they started than Canadians. ;D

40 / 28 , while a good scoring differencial between nines [12],
it still doesn't beat my personal best of 48 / 34 [14] in competition......but on a much lower level. :)

I have a friend in England who once shot 29-52...I feel safe in assuming that he is the only player in the history of golf to do that...

Paul,

That tells me you will go a long way to set up a bet to win $5.

I'll watch out for you at Pebble!

How in the world does someone shoot 29-52? That's a story I've got to hear.
