OT—Irish Restaurants (Vegan)
« on: June 09, 2024, 09:51:18 AM »
We will be in Dublin, Westport, and Lahinch in a couple of weeks. The couple with whom we are traveling are both vegans. Any suggestions on restaurants, including in proximity to Baltray, Rosses Point, Mulranny, and Carne? Indian, Thai, Chinese almost always work.

Thanks.

Ira

Irish Vegan? Sounds like the punchline to a joke.

Long time plant based food consumer here.

Last time I was over there I enjoyed Glas Restaurant, which is a very nice sit down restaurant.

Umi Falafel is really good for quicker and cheaper meals. If you are trying to eat at places that will accommodate both their diet as well as those who eat meat, Indian or Thai restaurants usually have plenty of vegan options.

I have no advice other than I'm a vegetarian who doesn't mind eating vegan, and it's good to know I'm not the only one out here! Agree on Indian/Thai restaurants usually being good bets to have options.

Cornucopia in Dublin city centre is the original veggie/vegan option. Bit far from you in Baltray but maybe you're staying in Dublin.

Ira, Italian cuisine has vegan options. (I have been a vegetarian since 1998.) For fun, I looked up a place where I pulled pints in the summer of 1984, Óstán Carna, now Carna Bay Hotel/Óstán Chuan Charna. Its Ros Liath restaurant has 1. a dhal and 2. sweet potato and quinoa cakes with humus. That said, your travel companions might have concerns about kitchen practices where the main meals are almost exclusively non-vegan.
