I saw the reference to Wampanoag which recently completed a restoration project with Kyle Franz and Tyler performing the work and am interested as I live in the same town and have played it a fair amount over the years. I haven’t seen any of the original drawings or aerials but the word is that they tried to include as many lost features as possible. I’m wondering if the top shot bunkers that were reinstalled were all included in the original design? Thank you.

Nice work, Mark and Tyler.

I don't think that you meant to upload a photo of a church, but you should leave it there. We all pray to golf in our own way.

Thanks Ron!

Actually I meant to. While travelling to study America's great courses I usually include side trips to buildings of architectural significance. In future interviews I will include a few buildings. For instance, in Chicago I might include the Glessner House or Carson Pirie Scott original home with golden age courses there.

The photo of the Durham Cathedral here should be matched with Silloth or Brancepeth Castle (Colt)

Tim,

Tyler and Brad had a set of Ross blueprints that they relied upon heavily. I saw many of them and IIRC there were many top shot bunkers on some of the vintage holes .Brad pointed out that one half of the course had numerous fairway bunkers. While the other nine holes had very few!

Tim, thanks for asking ... what are some of your favorite holes/greens there?

Mark-7 and 17 are terrific short par fours with both playing uphill on the approach. The greens are naturally benched into the hillside with 7 having more slope than contour and 17 the opposite. A par is prized at either and I like the tree/brush clearing that was accomplished on the right side of 17 giving the player more opportunity to advance a wayward drive than previously existed. Although the greens are not as wild as 5 and 7 at Wannamoisett they provide a similar test and are a testament to how good Ross was at providing a balanced mix of holes. Additionally I’m a fan of the par 5 6th which has some kick mounds in the drive zone that if negotiated properly can turn the hole into a two shotter. 6 green has at least one flag location where you putt with your back to the hole and are in disbelief as to the line when watching it roll out. Finally I would claim 15,16,17 as my favorite three hole stretch with 6,7,8 in the running.
