Reposting as it looks like some of the other threads were fairly old. Headed to San Antonio in a few weeks and have a chance to play on Sept 10th. Any tips/recommendations from locals or folks who have played there recently?

Played La Cantera a few years back (was okay), but otherwise haven't had a chance. Heard mixed things about Brackenridge and mostly good things about The Quarry. Open to anything. Appreciate this group as always - feedback never disappoints!

I haven't played anything spectacular in San Antonio (I've seen ~20 courses).  Brackenridge is fine and has some nice holes, but I heard it is in pretty rough shape this summer with the Texas heat and draught.  I don't know if I would seek it out, but if you're in town it's a pleasant course.  The other Tillinghast in town is Oak Hills, which is very nice and private if you're able to get on there.

If you're willing to pony up, I like TPC San Antonio.  Both courses are better than La Cantera in my opinion.  Probably not worth the $300 or whatever they want these days, but it's the best public I've seen in the area (haven't played the Quarry).

Cedar Creek is another fun muni. The Bandit in New Braunfels is a good Keith Foster.

I second the TPC courses. The back nine on the Quarry is pretty good, but the front not so much. I still like the views from La Cantera of the roller coasters. La Cantera closed the Palmer course in last few years.

I wish I had golf rec’s for you, but I can recommend the puffy tacos at Teka Molino, the bar at the Menger Hotel if you’re a history buff, and the Gruene Dance Hall if you make it to New Braunfels.

concur on Sam's pics, been a while since played over there... and by the way, if you see those little BEWARE OF SNAKE signs at The Quarry, believe em!

Thanks to all for the input, even the non-golf recs! Was not expecting to hear so much love for the TPC courses but definitely looks intriguing. Of course, if anyone has connections at Oak Hill that would be great  ;)
