I wonder how long it will be, before we are allowed to crack the sacred top five?

Not that I am sure that the course deserves to . . . but it does seem like there is a glass ceiling there in either event.  If the course was in New Zealand, I wonder how it would be compared to Tara Iti.

Look at Sand Hills - in 1999 it was rated the 31st best golf course in the States by Golf Digest, and 17th in the world by Golf Mag. Now it sits 10th in the States by Digest, and 10th in the world by Golf Mag.

So -- if it's as good as Sand Hills   ::)  - twenty years ?  Sounds about right.

What is all this worry about rankings?  So weird to me.

When I go skiing up at Tahoe, and enjoy my time at Homewood, do I care one bit about where Homewood is "ranked" among Tahoe ski areas?  Or among North America ski rankings?  NO!  I enjoy spending a day there, the same way I enjoy playing golf at any number of courses no matter what they are "ranked".

The ranking obsession with many of you is just something I can't understand.

Kevin,

I doubt any on here are obsessed with rankings. It’s a short-hand for the ‘which course is better’ discussion and can be thought-provoking if you allow yourself to be challenged and open to asking ‘why?’. When a course you think should be ranked higher isn’t, it makes you question if there’s something that you are missing. It can be educational if you let it, but agree that often the argument is reduced to numbers, which isn’t really the point.
