Chicago Golf Club 2005 Walker Cup
« on: July 08, 2022, 04:33:16 PM »
As always, a search begins with wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_Walker_Cup

The final matches for the great Gary Wolstenholme.

Team USA had Anthony Kim, but other than Brian Harmon and J.B. Holmes, a collection of journeymen professionals. Same might be said for the GBI team.

That event took place 17 years ago (it's 2022 for the future historians) and I wonder how many equipment tech generations ago that would be. What clubs and golf balls were the playing on that storied golf course? Did the course hold up to them?

Team USA eeked out a win, by one point.

Anyone here in attendance? What are your memories?
Coming in 2024
~Elmira Country Club
~Soaring Eagles
~Bonavista
~Indian Hills
~Maybe some more!!

You can download the USGA streaming app on your TV and they have the 2005 Walker Cup archived there. It’s pretty cool.

One thing I didn’t remember was how agonizingly slow JB (then John) Holmes was even as an amateur
