There are contours like that on nearly every piece of links ground. It just took someone to decide that the contour should be inside the green, instead of at the edges or back in the fairway.
I do not recall whether those contours in the 2nd green at The Old Course were part of the green before it became a double green. If they were, it was certainly the first instance. If not, there might have been something at Prestwick or elsewhere in Scotland that qualified as a buried elephant, first.
