We boiled that ocean until there was shame and angst in abundance.
So, I will be the first to "eat crow" after I was a guest at a Top 100 course just last week.

I went on the club's web site to just make sure I didnt do anything "douchey"...;-)...and saw this:

DRESS CODE EXCEPTIONS:Shorts (exercise or Bermuda), athletic type t-shirts and denim pants of any color may be worn from the Parking Lot to the Locker Rooms or from the Locker Rooms to the Parking Lot. These exceptions are made solely to accommodate changing clothes. Loitering in the Locker Room (including card play, TV watching, drinking) while in shorts,, t-shirts or denim pants of any color is not permitted.

I showed up in my golf gear, but to all who advocated on behalf of the maligned guest in said thread, you are hereby exonerated... ;D I learned something for sure.
Cheers.

With all due respect to this unnamed club, just because you can doesn't mean you should...

Is this post ironic?

Or just meta-

I dont disagree with that at all.

My point in providing a postscript to a thread from the summer that got fairly heated was to show that a top 100 club, on the public part of their web site, acknowledges that members and guests may arrive and depart in the same clothes that the summer's OP had queried about and that I, for one, pounced all over as absurd.

I was wrong.

Ian, Looks pretty standard. I pulled this from the website at Oak Hill.  I still would never do it.

Dark tailored dress jeans are permitted in the Clubhouse anywhere at anytime. Please note that gentlemen are encouraged, but not required, to wear a sport coat along with their jeans, and always when dining in the Oak Room. Jeans and athletic wear can be worn from the parking lot to the locker rooms and locker rooms to parking lot for the purpose of changing only.
  • Dark tailored dress jeans are permitted in the Golf Shop and Ladies’ Card Room.Dress jeans must be tailored, dark in color and free from holes, tears, frays and shall not be distressed, cargo, baggy or acid washed.Women’s colored jeans are permitted.

Shinnecock

Appropriate golf attire is required in the Clubhouse, on the practice area and on the golf course. Unacceptable clothing includes T-shirts, tank tops, sports jerseys, jeans, cut-offs, sweat suits, jogging and other short shorts. Flip-flops and sandals are not permitted. All shirts should remain tucked in. Hats should be worn with the bill forward and removed when entering the Clubhouse. Only soft spikes are allowed in the Clubhouse and on the golf course.

Interesting that Shinnecock Hills requires you to wear the hat backwards.
