I'm looking for advice from this learned and well-traveled group. A friend and I are driving from St Paul to Carmel, via Prairie Dunes. Planning a stop at Black Mesa GC in Espanola NM- any recommendations for good golf between there and Carmel? It's a long drive over a lot of country- we'd like to find the best of it.
So much golf to play, so little time....

Kansas is a bit out of your way on the drive to Indiana, isn't Mark?  ;)

That's what I thought too until I saw that NM was the next stop...

Arizona is the obvious stop between NM and CA, but I's skip it.  If you've driven nine hours to get from Hutchinson to Espanola, I'd make another 9-hour drive from Espanola to St. George and play Sand Hollow.  After that an eight hour drive would get you to Carson City, where I'd pull in every favor I could think of to play Clear Creek.  From there you could get to Carmel in another five hours or so.  Sounds like a lot of time behind the wheel to me!

Las Vegas would be a good stop between NM and Cali with plenty of great golf. From there the most direct route to Monterey would take you through Bakersfield to Paso Robles also a good rest stop with surprisingly good public golf including Hunter Ranch, a tribute to MacKenzie. From there Monterey would be next stop up the 101 and I would advise a side trip to Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz. Enjoy and report back with your findings. 8)
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

I concur with Sand Hollow. It is  pleasure to play it. I might try Flagstaff, however. Forest Highlands is pretty good and COOL.
