FYI:
Bill Diddle was a founding member of the ASGCA. He won many Indiana state ams and lived to be 100 years old spending his remaining days in a log cabin off his Woodland Hills course
"In 1928 Bill purchased 168 acres in Hamilton County, Indiana. He managed to hang onto it through the depression. In 1951 he designed and built Woodland Golf Course. Originally the course was to have no bunkers, only contours would provide strategic components of the golf course. Woodland was his pride and joy as Bill and his wife lived in a log cabin near the 12th tee. The course was originally public. In 1954 he leased it to the newly formed Woodland Country Club.
The original golf course at Woodland CC in Carmel, Indiana has ceased to exist. A contemporary design has replaced the original golf course. Woodland was one of the most historically significant golf courses in our state.
Before the original golf course was replaced, I spoke with Ben Crenshaw briefly about Woodland and was pleased to know that he had turned down the opportunity for the design commission and told the club they should not alter the course."

He influenced over three hundred course mainly throughout the Midwest

Cheers
"Golf is happiness. It's intoxication w/o the hangover; stimulation w/o the pills. It's price is high yet its rewards are richer. Some say its a boys pastime but it builds men. It cleanses the mind/rejuvenates the body. It is these things and many more for those of us who truly love it." M.Norman

FYI:

Bill Diddel was Pete Dye's mentor. How did Pete repay Bill. He took the commission to revise Bill's beloved Woodland, and built a typically over bunkered Dye course.
