Florida passes minimum wage increase
« on: November 06, 2020, 09:11:42 PM »

"Raises the minimum wage to $10.00 per hour effective September 30th, 2021 and then increases it annually by $1.00 per hour until the minimum wage reaches $15.00 per hour in 2026 and then reverts back to being adjusted annually for inflation."

I only bring this up because I played a struggling course outside of Tampa a few weeks ago and the GM told me he pays some staff $9 to start.
Look for golf fees to rise over the next few years.

Look what assistant pros are paid, it’s a joke. I don’t know why anyone goes into the business. I can’t imagine how hard it is to land a good head pro job.

Now I may not give a damn about what the kids that take my burger order make but thank God the people who make my golf courses fun to play will be earning something closer to a living wage.

That's good -- we *should* be paying more for golf, especially at struggling local courses.

And maybe if so many golfers weren't such measly cheapskates who insisted on using tee-time booking sites owned by media conglomerates to save $5 dollars on already-low green fees, those local courses wouldn't be struggling in the first place.

Especially since minimum wage in Florida hasn't kept pace with the earnings of people who play a lot of golf.

JL - it seems the way of things: we're cheap with the places (and people) that could most use our support. At famous/highly successful venues that serve us up a dollop of prestige and bragging rights with our burgers and golf, we seem happy to spend like drunken sailors.

That's like saying people are cheap who wait for their staple items to go on sale. Aren't we afraid of driving these companies out of business? Sorry, its the job of golf course managers to set the greenfee and the option of consumers to pay the rate.

Yep, supply and demand either boost some up or destroy them. Golf is no different, the oversupply from the 90/00's still has some correcting to do unfortunately.

At the golf course we own , we have found that one $15 hour guy is better than two $8 hour dudes.  I dont think we have but one employee under $15 and he is a part time highschool guy....you can't find good labor at $10 bucks an hour...

I just checked out the menu at my local Popeyes that I visit three days a week after golf. I usually get out of there for under $20 a visit. The day they charge me a penny more than $20 I’m gone.
