OT - Any local polling places a golf course clubhouse?
« on: November 03, 2020, 03:19:39 PM »
I remember one year my dad took me with him to vote and we went to the local muni golf course. I was very confused but really liked the red/white/blue booths, thought it was really cool. Reagan years.

Here in Salt Lake county, no golf courses, but several churches, the Salt Lake Zoo, an Equestrian Park, a few retirement homes, and Vivint Arena where the Jazz play.

In the suburbs of St. Louis, the 9-hole municipal Ballwin GC, is a polling place.

Earlier this year, Highlands, a municipal public course in Lincoln, NE was a poling place for local elections.  Don't know about yesterday.

When Shoal Creek opened in 1977 it was organized as its own voting precinct for its 50 or so residents. The club also had its own fire truck and its security guards had police authority. But it was consolidated with a nearby neighborhood when it was realized the voting rolls were subject to public examinations.

But the "town hall" at Shoal is still used as a polling place and staffed by members. And visitors are welcomed to stay and look around after they pull the lever.

Unintentionally I believe; an apt summary of those years.... "very confused...really liked red, white and blue...thought it was really cool..."
