They do a superb job and I'm looking forward to seeing the Tournament this week.

There is a lot of "noise" re: the revamped greens - it will be interesting to see as to how they play

Please. Don’t insult the minimum wage dude that lets us play the ball as it lies week after week.

A quick Q: Do you think there is merit in a Composite routing being used in the future for a US Open at WF?

Somehow it does not "fit" WF.  There is something special about the fact that this "Best" US Open track is available to members and their guests on a regular daily basis and it not "created" for "special" days.  And East is not exactly a scotch these days.  Back in the '70's and '80's members would often avoid the East.  No longer true.  Today, unless they are entertaining guests who insist on playing the US open track, members generally prefer East.

Amazing place.  And this video is more proof of it.  Hail to these unheralded heroes.

Neil,
Thanks for the link. That looks like an impressive operation. I marvel at how hard crews work to give us great playing conditions.

Hi Neil,

I was blessed to play this place (terribly) in the Anderson a few years ago. Day one I walked onto the putting green, put three balls on the green and took a moment to look around. When I looked down again, the balls had gone. Found them about 15 feet away. I didn't even think I was on a noticeable slope. Amazing work that these guys do. This week is going to be fascinating.

Hope you're well!

Parsed from another thread:

What is especially interesting about this Open is the amount of relative autonomy they've ceded to the cigar-chomping Steve Rabideau. This guy is a gem. He's a fully-investing walking human- humidor who has prepped the place for over two years in anticipation of this event. While the blue bloods of Far Hills have the final say, they've finally gotten the message that the "local talent is wiser than the supposed experts." Steve and his crew have the place totally dialed and the fall weather up this way has been practically perfect. Let's hope none of the outsiders mess too much with this perfection!

PS... Any wind above 10mph will require Kleenex tissue boxes off the side of every tee and green....maybe even crocodile-sized. It'll be sooooo much fun!

Hi Neil,

Hope you are well and enjoy the week.

Will always fondly remember the time Tommy Naccarato and I visited with you at Winged Foot.

Just one question: does that putt from the back right to a pin front left on the famous 10th sill (apparently) break up hill?

Neil,

The "Other Stars: video was really good.  Thanks for sharing, it really tells the story of the behind the scenes work done by the team.  I would like to do a video someday of the people needed to build and grow-in a golf course, that would be another good story.

I’d like to add that Neil is being a bit modest here, in that he was an important source for Gil and the club, serving as Winged Foot’s club historian. He’s very thorough, and he invested a lot of hours and energy into the restoration of both courses. So, Neil, thank you to you, as well as the great agronomy team that was highlighted in that well done video.

Neil wonderful renovation and played wonderfully, very worthy of hosting our national championship. Congrats and hope they come back to WF in 10 years or less.

Neil,  I saw quite a few "challenge putts" out there this weekend and thought of you.
