Do other golf course architects use a sand pro to shape greens?

Did Jim Urbina use one to shape the 5th green at Old Mac?

I can't recall.

Sandpro is almost always used in some sort of fashion during construction.

It does look like fun in the clip. Maybe because it’s Maui - I don’t know.

I watched the Lonesome Dove series a couple of times over Easter weekend and for some crazy reason I pictured Bill Coore as Captain Woodrow F. Call. Has to be the hair right? Anyway if by chance Bill’s named his sand pro the “hell-bitch” then we know I’m not the only one who sees it.

Eric,

Thanks for posting the Link, the Sand Pro is like the paint brush, it puts the final touches on to the painting.  I love what they do for the detail work and I spend as much time on them as Bill does.

PERFECT!

Really put a smile on my face as this hole was the closest I have ever been to a hole in one.  It was 1999 and I used a rental set of Ping I3's with graphite shafts and connected with a doctor from Chicago coincidentally and his teenage son.  I was playing from the back tees, why I have no idea as I was maybe a 10 at the time. I remember this hole at that time was 203 and there was breeze against slightly and off the right.  I took a 4 iron to make sure I made it over the chasm. The pin was basically right below the ridge in the center of the green.  I hit it very solid with a slower swing as the graphite shafts added some whip and by now I realized I needed to slow my swing down. I was maybe 5 feet right of the pin and very high as the wind held it up as well.  It didn't even use the ridge but fell softly left back to the hole and was finally settled maybe 3 inches from the cup.  It is a great downhill view regardless of your shot, but this hole gave a special picturesque memory to me.

I was thrilled! The Dr. and his son gave me some high fives, but when you have never had a hole in one you tend to remember the next closest thing, while anticlimactic and unimpressive to most who have had one, for me the thrill is still there.

My apologies Doc I didn’t mean to imply that I’ll be in Bandon next month but rather Maui. ;)  Summer!!

Oh my Lawd,

I hope JK hasn't seen this.  Might have a fit with yet another drone on a course!

Serious question thou, does one have enough "feel" to get the green just right with one of these?  Or is this just getting the rough shape before dialing in all the fine features by hand?

The sand pro is the second to last step.  It gets the grade and sand smooth to spec and for seed planting, but there’s always some handwork invovled. Especially to tweak subtle breaks, or make grade match up.
