Golf in Ireland in the early 70's

Here's a film I came across earlier today, an Irish Tourist Board promotional film of golf in Ireland in the early 70's.

Nine holes are featured from Cork, Portmarnock, Royal Dublin, Mullingar, Co. Sligo, Lahinch, Galway, Carlow and Killarney.
Of great interest is seeing some of the courses before the heavy evergreen plantings of the late 70s as well as the footage of the sweet swinging Christy Snr 'Himself'.

I really enjoyed watching that. Thank you for posting. What a throw-back era for the game.


I especially loved Christie playing the 2nd at Rosses Point and his extremely young caddie pulling the trolley.

Argh! Brain fade. Apologies to you both.
Terrific film though. Spiked multi-tone shoes with flaps over the laces, the doggie wondering onto the green at Royal Dublin, Christie’s waterproofs, wee lad wearing gloves and a big coat pulling the trolley at County Sligo (as mentioned above).

Magnificent! I played quite a lot in Ireland as a boy in the 1960s and it was just as wonderful as the film.

finally caught this - most enjoyable thanks. 


I've changed golf 'coach' and all he wants me to do is relax and swing.   


Both golfers just look so 'at ease' as they address the ball.  Just lovely.

Great video. I met Harry Bradshaw from Portmarnock when I was there forty years ago. His grandson is now a member and good player.
