Ballindalloch Golf Course
« on: January 04, 2018, 05:49:06 PM »
Just read on Facebook that this great highland nine hole course is to close with immediate effect. Sad news and the area's golfing scene will be the poorer for it.

Maybe that new development will help fill the void.
Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Very sorry to hear this news. I have driven by the course 4-6 times over the years and was hoping to play it some day.

I played the course 10 years or so ago with my brother, and as Jon has said, it is/was a well designed course, but agriculturally average.  Unfortunately, there was no there there other than the course, and it was not good enough to draw in golf aficionados who found themselves there, when there were serious whisky tasting alternatives every few miles or so.

I played it a few times back when I was doing my commute up to Elgin. I’m sorry to see it go as it had some really nice golf. If anyone has played Craigielaw, another Tom MacKenzie design, the greens are kind of similar although probably smaller at Ballindalloch.

The short par 3 over the burn and into the dell in the corner was/is one of the prettiest par 3’s in the north and also a very good hole.

Jon – any news as to whats happening with the course ? Up that way it’s mostly grazing so perhaps it could get resurrected in the future ?

Niall,

Not 100% sure but I believe it will go back to grazing.

I wonder if has occurred to them to keep the course open but with the sheep sort of like Brora etc ? Anytime I've been there it has been an honesty box anyway so its not like they would need to man it.
