A possibility?  New bucket list is to attend Guy Fawkes Day in Lewes in Sussex for the bonfires the first week  each November. Anyone been?

Michael -

Friends I know who have visited Dornoch in mid- to late-October have been very pleased with the weather there. Just be aware the daylight hours are getting much shorter in GB&I at that time of year.

By the way, it was over 50F in Dornoch today.

The best weather I've had in Ireland was in late October. Cool crisp nights(frost one night) but warm sunny (68F) a couple days-and this was in Donegal. Unusual, I'm sure but it can be terrible there in August too,

I've played in Southwest Ireland over Thanksgiving and had very nice weather.

Never been to the bonfire, but we stayed near Lewis for a week last year.  Nice part of the country and I played West Sussex and Royal Ashdown Forest while we were there - both well worth a visit.  Rye is also in striking distance and you could easily combine with a trip to the Kent links as well (Royal St George’s, Deal, Princes).
As for the weather at that time of year - it’s pot luck really.  Certainly won’t be warm, but if you get a dry week it can be a great time of year to play.  The links courses would certainly be fine.

Weather is brilliant the problem being , for many of us, the declining daylight as someone noted , furnish too much darkness and, by association, drinking hours.
