OT- Camera recommendations
« on: November 23, 2017, 09:49:30 PM »
Hey All,

Are there any current recommendations for a point-and-shoot digital camera for taking golf course photos?

I've had Lumix cameras for the past several years, but dust always finds its way into the camera onto the sensor, so I have to take it apart and blow the dust off every couple months (or in the middle of a trip if I'm using it a lot), which is annoying.

So, all I'm really looking for is a camera that fits into a pocket, has 15x+ zoom, and takes great photos!

Any ideas?
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

Brad - was just looking at these this morning. I’m going with the Sony DSC – HX 80. Has 30x zoom and Wi-Fi which I like. Good reviews on Amazon and Best Buy.

There is a trade-off in pocket sized cameras:  In order to keep a camera pocket sized, the larger the sensor the smaller the zoom. If you want a better sensor in a pocket sized camera, it will limit the amount of zoom you can get. The  Sony DSC – HX 80 has a 1/2.3 sensor. You should take a look at the Lumix SZ 100. It has a 1" sensor that takes very sharp photos, but only has a 10X optical  zoom (which is the most of any pocket sized camera with a 1" sensor as far as I am aware). That should be sufficient for golf course photos.

Highly recommend the Sony RX 100 V and its various cousins.

I've recently converted over to the Sony RX 100 as well and, while pricey, it's fully worth it.

I went with the Sony ILCE 5000 for its HDR capability.
