I think a Doomsday golf course will need a retractable dome.  ;D

Wondering how many 1% wealth/golfers/doomsday believers there are?  Would seem like a very limited market.

I can see the marketing...."Come out and enjoy life while waiting for it to end."  Well, we all do that, but not to that extreme.

Another random thought....the missiles are coming and you are tied in a match somewhere on the back nine...do you hurry in, or be like the Caddy Shack priest and play on?

What sort of doomsday will the typical house not survive but a golf course will - including the infrastructure required to maintain it, i.e. mowing, irrigation, etc.

I suppose the golf course is an amenity for people to enjoy in the days and months [and, hopefully, centuries] leading up to the Apocalypse.

After it, I think they would probably be better off with a video game version of the course.

I was not familiar with the name of the designer, Dave Edsall.  I checked out his web site and he is the designer of several "Replica Courses," including the Tour 18 courses in Houston and Dallas.  I really think if he's going to pursue a Greek mythology-based design, he should conduct a seance to get some advice from Desmond Muirhead.

They'll have trouble organizing a robust Member-Guest, that's for sure. Actually, I don't think the course will get much play at all. With Augusta National and Pine Valley and The National openly seeking out new members for the first time in decades, why would anyone want to play here?

I feel like a doomsday golf course should probably have bunch of hazards caused by explosions. Shrapnel scattered through barren desert wasteland is probably a good theme. Maybe toss in a few toppled buildings or partially grass-covered rubble mounds, a doomsday chocolate drop of sorts... I'm guessing they are down with brown/ fast and firm?

Very good.
Will Gil Hanse still be the go-to guy for renovations?

I always see these Omega Man type movies and wonder why the protagonist does not use the opportunity to sneak on Pine Valley.
The only way of really finding out a man's true character is to play golf with him. In no other walk of life does the cloven hoof so quickly display itself.

... and an ominous black tower with a great eye atop ... lidless, wreathed in flame. Would make a great halfway house.

Sounds like Orc mischief to me.

Jim Nantz is the voice of the Palantir
Arwen wins 27 Majors
Aragorn only plays with hickories
The dwarves have reinvented the game. The Mines of Moria are the new home of golf.
No one plays Pine Valley anymore - it's too crowded.

That is exceptionally funny!  ;D

... back in my formative blogging years I wrote a bit about playing Shinny and NGLA on a continuous 36 hole loop when the Mayan calendar had the world scheduled to go black! ... oddly enough the one time i was lucky enough to play NGLA, as a legit guest, it was during a tropical storm :o

Eric and Peter - While I very much like the idea of The Great Eye of Barad-Dur for a doomsday golf course I feel like the shire is a way better place to live out your Tolkien golf course fantasies... nerds :P

Yes, my bad. Let's get back to cool ideas for a doomsday course.
