 8)   MB's "line of charm"

or GS's "Lines of Charm" derivative

or perhaps "sucker pin"
Inverness (Toledo, OH) cathedral clock inscription: "God measures men by what they are. Not what they in wealth possess.  That vibrant message chimes afar.

Wow, thanks!  Very kind of you.

I was going to say, "No matter how much you may dislike pickles, they are, in fact, the only thing you can do with cucumbers."

1,000 bonus points for anyone who can name the comedy record where that line was stolen from.

I genuinely don't know but it does sound like the sort of thing Peter Cook would say so my guess is a Pete and Dud record. On second thoughts, not enough swearing.

One of two examples of "profound revelations" on the record.  One of my favorite comedy albums, though it was never considered popular.  16 year old smart-ass kids laughing at the silly, clever humor.  A Child's Garden Of Grass (1971):

Sorry for the hijack.  It's difficult to choose the most important words of wisdom, though I value the simplest of observations.  Tom Doak once told me his job could be summarized as understanding how a golf ball reacts with the ground.  I like that one.

Some of the most memorable:

Malcolm Campbell pointing out the sheen that was developing on Lundin Links as the course got firm and fast.

I enjoy the debates between Brauer and Doak - two completely different approaches to the craft of building golf courses.

TEPaul and Pat Mucci's advice on Club governance.  I particularly remember Mucci's advice to know what you want to do before bringing in a consultant.

Just as "The Old Course" is the answer to every question ever asked here on gca.com, so too is Tom Paul's "It's a Big World" theory the inevitable end to every discussion. Like the Golden Rule for ethical behaviour, these two answers are all you need to know about gca!
