Template hole?  I think so - this is essentially the same design as the 2nd at Cherry Valley C C in NJ and the 2nd at Talamore in So. Pines.

Bill,

I've done a bit more digging and am beginning to think that this hole is on virtually every Rees course I've played that's been built in the past 15 or so years.   Somewhat like Charlie Brown's Christmas Tree, it's not a bad little hole once you get past the aesthetics.

 8) played Talamore many a time, used to stay in the condos, and visit with Dollie Llama.. (the llamas would seemingly snicker and chuckle at some swings at work or even from their pen near the 14th tee)

Cherry Valley cc #2  plays ~90-190 yrs


Talamore#2 (vintage 1991)  plays 120 - 200 yrs
