Golf, where cartball has reduced our much needed exercise to the point of causing us to die sooner.

Now comes Top golf where we don't even need to walk around and read a putt.

Might as well see about buying a plot and ordering a coffin.

Only on this site would you bash something golf related that might actually be a marginal economic success and get some folks interested in playing.

You mean this site that is supposed to be focused on discussing golf course architecture?

Top Golf seems at least as likely to cannibalize infrequent play as it is to inspire people to go out and play the actual game.

I think trying to make comparisons/judgements between TopGolf and actual golf is the same as Mini Putt-Putt to real golf.

They're both apples and oranges..

John/Mike:

Much like engaging in verbal fist-a-cuffs with my wife or debating our beloved JK here on GCA, an alternative view to life or GCA is an appreciated breath of fresh air.

If I brought even a moment of pause in typing a response for someone to say " Let me think for a minute on how BK opined", my thoughts served there purpose.

...possibly on its way to Long Island.

http://www.golfonlongisland.com/teebox/2017/12/plans-in-place-to-bring-long-islands-first-topgolf-location-to-holtsville.html

Will be interesting to see what the reaction is in a region that has lost three major driving ranges in the past five years.

Callaway just invested another $20 million in Top Golf:

"Specifically, Callaway Golf disclosed in an 8-K SEC filing that it made an additional $20.0 million investment in Topgolf International, a company in which Callaway Golf owns a minority interest.
The investment was completed through a private placement that was managed by Fidelity Investment.  According to Callaway Golf, that investment raised its investment in Topgolf to $70.5 million on a cost basis and brought its ownership stake to approximately 14% of Topgolf.
Callaway estimates the fair value of its Topgolf shares is approximately $290 million, which is to say it has had a nice return on its investment so far.  The caveat was provided, however, that the shares are illiquid and that there is no assurance Callaway Golf could sell its shares for the estimated fair value, or at all."
